Abstract

A circuit for a telephone, having a data store for storing user data including telephone numbers and associated data, and sorting means (46) for sorting the user data for display. The sorting means sorts the user data according to frequency of use (e.g. frequency of calls received and frequency of connections requested) of the telephone numbers.

Claims

1. A circuit for a telephone, the circuit having a data store for storing user data including telephone numbers and associated data, and sorting means for sorting the user data for display, characterized in that the sorting means sorts the user data according to frequency of use of the telephone numbers.

2. A circuit according to claim 1, comprising means for receiving telephone numbers of incoming calls, wherein the sorting means sorts the user data according to the number of calls received from respective telephone numbers.

3. A circuit according to claim 2, further comprising means for counting the number of times a call is received having a given calling telephone number.

4. A circuit according to claim 2, where in the means for counting counts the number of times a call is received having a given calling telephone number within a predetermined period.

5. A circuit according to claim 4, wherein means are provided for a user to select the predetermined period.

6. A circuit according to claim 3, wherein the means for counting counts, for a plurality of calling telephone numbers, the number of times calls have been received for each of the plurality of calling telephone numbers within the predetermined period.

7. A circuit according to claims 2, further having means for inputting a signal indicative of acceptance of an incoming call, wherein the means for sorting sorts the calling telephone numbers for display according to frequency of receipt of accepted calls.

8. A circuit according to 1, the circuit having means for requesting connections to parties identified by called telephone numbers, characterized by means for sorting the user data for display according to the number of calls made to respective telephone numbers.

9. The circuit of claim 8, further comprising means for counting the number of times a call is requested having a given called telephone number.

10. The circuit of claim 8, wherein the means for counting counts the number of times a call is requested having a given called telephone number within a predetermined period.

11. The circuit of claim 10, wherein means are provided for a user to select the predetermined period.

12. The circuit of claim 10, wherein the means for counting counts, for a plurality of called telephone numbers, the number of times calls have been requested for each of the plurality of called telephone numbers within the predetermined period.

13. The circuit according to claim 8, further having means for inputting a signal indicative of connection to a called party, wherein the means for sorting sorts the called telephone numbers for display according to frequency of connection to called parties.

14. A telephone having a circuit according to claim 1, and a display for displaying the called numbers sorted by the sorting means.

15. A circuit for a telephone, the circuit having:

means for receiving calling numbers of incoming calls;

means for requesting connections to parties identified by called numbers; and

means for providing telephone items to an output for display, characterized by means for sorting the telephone items for display according to a sort order dependent on frequency of calls received and frequency of connections requested.
