Abstract

An apparatus and method for dynamically providing web-based multimedia to a mobile phone are described. According to one embodiment, an RSS feed is received that references multimedia files meeting one or more criteria. A playlist is generated dynamically from the multimedia files. The playlist is a single virtual multimedia file. An updated RSS feed is received that references one or more additional multimedia files meeting the one or more criteria. A second playlist is generated dynamically from the multimedia files and the one or more additional multimedia files.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving an RSS feed that references multimedia files meeting one or more criteria;

generating dynamically a playlist from the multimedia files, wherein the playlist is a single virtual multimedia file;

receiving an updated RSS feed that references one or more additional multimedia files meeting the one or more criteria; and

generating dynamically a second playlist from the multimedia files and the one or more additional multimedia files.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising providing a mobile user device one or more notifications that the second playlist is available, the one or more notifications including an e-mail, and an SMS text message.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a request to stream the second playlist, and streaming the second playlist to the mobile user device.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising updating a database to indicate that the mobile user device streamed at least a portion of the second playlist.

5. A computer-implemented method comprising:

searching automatically at a first time for multimedia files stored on one or more web servers meeting one or more criteria;

generating dynamically a playlist from the multimedia files, wherein the playlist is a single virtual multimedia file;

searching automatically at a second time for one or more additional multimedia files stored on the one or more web servers meeting the one or more criteria; and

generating dynamically a second playlist from the multimedia files and the one or more additional multimedia files.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising providing a mobile user device one or more notifications that the second playlist is available, the one or more notifications including an e-mail, and an SMS text message.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising receiving a request to stream the second playlist, and streaming the second playlist to the mobile user device.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising updating a database to indicate that the mobile user device streamed at least a portion of the second playlist.

9. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a request to accept multimedia files from a subscriber via a message;

parsing the message to determine if the request is valid using a front-end server; and

sending a request to one or more interlinked back end servers to ingest and publish the multimedia files, the one or more interlinked back end servers dynamically generating a playlist from the multimedia files, wherein the playlist is a single virtual multimedia file.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, wherein the interlinked back-end servers exchange information via simple web services protocol.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 9, wherein the message includes an email address associated with a unique channel.

12. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving multimedia files meeting one or more criteria;

saving the multimedia files on a distributed cluster file storage system, wherein the multimedia files are saved to at least two storage devices running on separate file servers;

generating dynamically a playlist from the multimedia files, wherein the playlist is a single virtual multimedia file;

streaming the playlist from the distributed cluster file storage system.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12, further comprising storing the playlist having content with a format specific to a mobile device;

and storing a second playlist having the content with a format specific to a second mobile device.
