Abstract

A modular container (2) for a flat display panel (3) has a mounting shelf (55) for the panel and power means (48) for selectively raising and lowering the mounting shelf and vertical channels (108) or geared tracks in the container positioned to receive side edges of the panel and adjustable laterally to accommodate panels of different widths. A modular container for a flat display panel has a mounting shelf for the panel and power means for selectively raising and lowering the mounting shelf and remotely controlled power means (32, 76), for moving said container with respect to a seated or recumbent person.

Claims

In a modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said flat display panel, and a top closure that opens to permit the emergence of said display panel, the improvement comprising a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, and vertical channels or geared tracks in said container positioned to receive side edges of said display panel and adapted to accommodate panels of different widths or thickness, or both, and locking means for securing said top closure against unauthorized opening.

11. The improvement of claim 2, in which said container has one or more handles by which the container can be manually transported, and a closure in one or more of said broad walls.

5. In a portable modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said mounting member the improvement comprising wheels mounted on said containers, said wheels being selectively motor driven, and remote control means for controlling the motion and direction of said wheels.

18. The improvement of claim 5 in which said container has one or more handles and can be carried and a closure in one or more of said broad walls.

In combination with a bed having a head and a foot, a modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, said container being mounted at or in the foot of said bed, said display panel being double sided, so that a person in the bed can view one side, and another person can view the other side simultaneously.

9. The improvement of claim 7, including means for swinging or pivoting the screen to either side of the bed for side viewing.

21. The improvement of claim 7 in which said container has one or more handles and can be carried and a closure in one or more of said broad walls.

In a modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, and an open top, a horizontal mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said horizontal mounting member, the improvement comprising said panel being two faced, so that it can be viewed from either side or both sides simultaneously.

19. The improvement of claim 10 in which said container has one or more handles and can be carried and a closure in one or more of said broad walls.

12. The method of optimizing the viewing by the occupant of a bed of a flat display panel mounted in or on a footboard of said bed comprising moving said footboard hence said panel, toward or away from said occupant.

13. The method of optimizing the viewing, by an occupant of a seat or bed, of a flat display panel carried by a modular container comprising providing said container with wheels selectively driven by motor means, providing receptor means for controlling said motor means, and providing transmitter means available to said occupant by which said module, hence said flat screen, can be moved with respect to said occupant.

A portable modular container for a flat display panel, said container having uninterrupted, broad, front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, the improvement comprising said container being self-supporting and having handle means by which the container can be manually transported.

In combination with a bed having a head and a foot, a portable modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, said container being mounted at or in the foot of said bed, and power means for moving said container as a detached unit or together with the footboard toward and away from the head of said bed, and means for swinging or pivoting the screen to either side of the bed for side viewing.

In a modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said flat display panel, and a top closure that opens to permit the emergence of said display panel, the improvement comprising a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, and vertical channels or geared tracks in said container positioned to receive side edges of said display panel and adapted to accommodate panels of different widths or thickness, or both, said container having one or more handles by which the container can be manually transported, and a closure in one or more of said broad walls

In a modular container for a flat display panel, said container having broad front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said flat display panel, and a top closure that opens to permit the emergence of said display panel, the improvement comprising one of said broad walls of said container being translucent, so that the display panel can be viewed through it, said container having one or more handles so that it can be carried and a closure in one or more of said broad walls.

20. A portable modular container for a flat display panel, said container having uninterrupted, broad, front and rear walls and relatively narrow side walls to define a space to receive said display panel, a mounting member within said container, power means for selectively raising and lowering said mounting member, and a flat display panel carried by said mounting member, the improvement comprising said container having handle means by which the container can be manually transported, and at least one of said container front and rear walls being translucent.
