Abstract

A method for managing mobile payments in a mobile phone. The method includes receiving data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services at a mobile phone, selecting one of the issuer specific payment services, and conducting a transaction using the phone.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services at a mobile phone;

entering a selection of one of the issuer specific payment services as a default service; and

conducting a transaction using the mobile phone using the one issuer specific payment service.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the code associated with the plurality of issuer specific payment services is stored in a secure element in the mobile phone.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the transaction is a payment transaction.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises a contactless element that allows the mobile phone to communicate contactlessly with a point of sale terminal with a contactless reader.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the method further comprises, prior to entering the selection:

displaying indicators for the plurality of issuer specific payment services so that a consumer can select an issuer specific payment service from the plurality of issuer specific payment services.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein payment services in the plurality of issuer specific payment services have different functions.

7. A computer readable medium comprising:

code for receiving data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services at a mobile phone;

code for entering a selection of one of the issuer specific payment services as a default service; and

code for conducting a transaction using the mobile phone using the one issuer specific payment service.

8. The computer readable medium of claim 7 wherein the transaction is a payment transaction.

9. The computer readable medium of claim 7 further comprising:

code for displaying a prompt to select an issuer specific payment service from the plurality of issuer specific payment services.

10. A phone comprising the computer readable medium of claim 7.

11. A phone comprising the computer readable medium of claim 8.

12. A phone comprising:

a processor;

a memory operatively coupled to the processor, the memory comprising code for receiving data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services at a mobile phone, code for entering a selection of one of the issuer specific payment services as a default service, and code for conducting a transaction using the mobile phone using the one issuer specific payment service;

a display operatively coupled to the processor; and

an antenna operatively coupled to the processor.

13. A method comprising:

sending data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services to a mobile phone comprising a contactless element, which is capable of allowing the phone to communicate contactlessly with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal; and

sending a plurality of messages from the plurality of issuers to the mobile phone.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein sending the code associated with the plurality of issuer specific payment applications and sending the plurality of messages are conducted by a mobile operator.

15. The method of claim 13 wherein the code associated with the plurality of issuer specific payment services is stored in a secure element in the mobile phone.

16. The method of claim 13 wherein the messages in the plurality of messages pass through a messaging gateway.

17. The method of claim 13 wherein the plurality of messages comprise at least two of a balance alert configuration response message, a balance alert message, a balance inquiry response message, a payment applied message, a payment reminder configuration response message, a payment reminder message, a transaction alert configuration response message, and a transaction alert message.

18. A computer readable medium comprising:

code for sending data associated with a plurality of issuer specific payment services to a mobile phone comprising a contactless element, which is capable of allowing the phone to communicate contactlessly with a contactless reader in a point of sale terminal; and

code for sending a plurality of messages from the plurality of issuers to the mobile phone.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 18 wherein the plurality of messages comprise at least two of a balance alert configuration response message, a balance alert message, a balance inquiry response message, a payment applied message, a payment reminder configuration response message, a payment reminder message, a transaction alert configuration response message, and a transaction alert message.

20. A communications server comprising the computer readable medium of claim 18.
