Abstract

Methods and systems for enabling a subscriber to interrupt a review of messages in a voice mail system (VMS), to make a call or take some other action, and to return to the same position as occupied at the time of interruption in the review of messages in the VMS. In response to an indication from the subscriber'"'"'s communication to leave the review, an identifier is created to mark the position of the subscriber'"'"'s communication in the review. The identifier is stored in the VMS. The VMS transmits a release message with respect to the subscriber'"'"'s communication, the message including a copy of the identifier. The message may be a GR-1120 message including a remote operations (RO) parameter with the copy of the identifier. In response to the release message, a service control point (SCP) stores the copy of the identifier and causes whatever action is indicated in the message to be taken with respect to the subscriber'"'"'s communication. In response to the receipt of the release message from a network element other than the VMS, the SCP routes the subscriber'"'"'s communication including the copy of the identifier to the VMS. The VMS uses the copy of the identifier with the identifier to place the subscriber'"'"'s communication in the same position occupied previously in the review.

Claims

1. A computer readable medium comprising:

a processor; and

a memory component, configured to store logic configured to;

receive at least one recorded messages, at a voice mail server (VMS);

receive a subscriber communication to review the at least one recorded messages;

receive a subscriber indication to leave a review of recorded messages in the VMS;

create an identifier to mark a position of the subscriber communication in the review of recorded messages in the VMS; and

in response to receiving a notice indicating the subscriber communication is to rejoin the review of recorded messages in the VMS, using the identifier to place the subscriber communication in the position in the review of recorded messages in the VMS,

wherein a subscriber may interrupt the review of messages in the VMS to initiate a new communication and then return to the position in the review of recorded messages in the VMS.

2. The computer readable medium of claim 1, the memory component further comprising logic configured to:

receive the notice,

wherein the notice includes a copy of the identifier, and

wherein using the identifier to place the subscriber communication in the position in the review of recorded messages includes using the copy of the identifier with the identifier to place the subscriber communication in the position in the review of recorded messages.

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein creating the identifier to mark the position of the subscriber communication includes, in response to receiving the indication from the subscriber communication to leave the review, providing a message indicating a release of the subscriber'"'"'s communication.

4. The computer readable medium of claim 3, wherein the message includes a remote operations (RO) parameter including a copy of the identifier and wherein the message comprises a GR-1129 message comprising the RO parameter including the copy of the identifier.

5. The computer readable medium of claim 1, the memory component further comprising logic configured to transmit the identifier after creating the identifier.

6. The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the received notice is generated by a non-terminating network element.

7. A method for reviewing messages in a voicemail system (VMS), comprising:

providing a subscriber device with a presentation of at least one voicemail message, the at least one voicemail message being sent by a voicemail sender device;

receiving an indication to connect the subscriber device with the voicemail sender device, the indication being received during the presentation of the at least one voicemail message at a mark position;

creating an identifier to identify the mark position;

releasing the subscriber device from presentation of the at least one voicemail message; and

utilizing the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the notice includes a copy of the identifier and wherein utilizing the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position includes utilizing the copy of the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising providing a message indicating release of the subscriber device from presentation of the at least one voicemail message.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the message includes a remote operations (RO) parameter including a copy of the identifier.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the message includes a GR-1129 message.

12. The method of claim 7, further comprising transmitting the identifier after creation of the identifier.

13. The method of claim 7, wherein the received notice is generated by a non-terminating network element.

14. A system for reviewing messages, comprising:

a providing component configured to provide a subscriber device with a presentation of at least one voicemail message;

a receiving component configured to receive an indication to connect the subscriber device with a voicemail sender device, the indication being received during the presentation of the at least one voicemail message at a mark position;

a creating component configured to create an identifier to identify the mark position and release the subscriber device from presentation of the at least one voicemail message; and

a utilizing component configured to utilize the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the notice includes a copy of the identifier and wherein utilizing the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position includes utilizing the copy of the identifier to resume presentation of the at least one voicemail message at the mark position.

16. The system of claim 14, further comprising a message providing component configured to provide a message indicating release of the subscriber device from presentation of the at least one voicemail message.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the message includes a remote operations (RO) parameter including a copy of the identifier.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the message includes a GR-1129 message.

19. The system of claim 14, further comprising a transmitting component configured to transmit the identifier after creation of the identifier.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the received notice is generated by a non-terminating network element.
