Abstract

Methods, systems, and machine-readable media are disclosed for utilizing mobile electronic devices in various types of financial transactions. According to one embodiment, a method of providing a plurality of mobile commerce functions can comprise receiving a communication related to a function of a mobile wallet application of a mobile device. One or more of a plurality of acquirer systems for handling of the communication can be identified based on the function of the mobile wallet application to which the communication relates. The communication can be routed to the identified one or more acquirer systems for handling of the communication. In some cases, a reply to the communication can be received from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems and the reply can be sent to a recipient.

Claims

1. A method of providing a plurality of mobile commerce functions, the method comprising:

receiving a communication related to a function of a mobile wallet application of a mobile device;

identifying one or more of a plurality of acquirer systems for handling of the communication based on the function of the mobile wallet application to which the communication relates; and

routing the communication to the identified one or more acquirer systems for handling of the communication.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a reply to the communication from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems; and

sending the reply to a recipient.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a mobile wallet server.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a merchant system.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a point-of-sale device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from an acquirer system.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a mobile wallet server.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a merchant system.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a point-of-sale device.

10. The method of claim 2, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to an acquirer system.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the function comprises a payment function.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the function comprises an account information lookup function.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the function comprises a registration function.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the function comprises a marketing function.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the function comprises a provisioning function.

16. A system comprising:

a mobile device adapted to execute a mobile wallet application;

a plurality of acquirer systems, each of the plurality of acquirer systems adapted to provide one or more mobile commerce functions;

a gateway communicatively coupled with the mobile device and each of the plurality of acquirer systems, the gateway adapted to receive a communication related to a function of the mobile wallet application, identify one or more of the plurality of acquirer systems for handling of the communication based on the function of the mobile wallet application to which the communication relates and the one or more mobile commerce functions provided by each of the plurality of acquirer systems, and route the communication to the identified one or more acquirer systems for handling of the communication.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising:

a wireless communications network, wherein the mobile device is communicatively coupled with the wireless communications network; and

a mobile wallet server communicatively coupled with the wireless communications network and the gateway.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the gateway is adapted to receive the communication related to the function of the mobile wallet application from the mobile wallet server.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the mobile wallet server is adapted to send the communication related to the function of the mobile wallet application to the gateway in response to a communication from the mobile wallet application and wherein the mobile wallet server is adapted to receive the communication from the mobile wallet application via the wireless communications network.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the gateway is further adapted to receive a reply to the communication from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems and send the reply to the mobile wallet server.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the mobile wallet server is adapted to send the reply to the mobile wallet application via the wireless communications network.

22. The system of claim 16, further comprising a merchant system communicatively coupled with the gateway.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the gateway is adapted to receive the communication related to the function of the mobile wallet application from the merchant system.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein the gateway is further adapted to receive a reply to the communication from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems and send the reply to the merchant system.

25. The system of claim 16, further comprising a point-of-sale device communicatively coupled with the gateway.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein the gateway is adapted to receive the communication related to the function of the mobile wallet application from the point-of-sale device.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the gateway is further adapted to receive a reply to the communication from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems and send the reply to the point-of-sale device.

28. The system of claim 16, wherein the gateway is adapted to receive the communication related to the function of the mobile wallet application from one of the plurality of acquirer systems.

29. The system of claim 16, wherein the plurality of acquirer systems comprise at least one payment system communicatively coupled with one or more financial institution systems, wherein the financial institution systems are adapted to maintain information related to a plurality of financial accounts.

31. The system of claim 16, wherein at least one of the plurality of acquirer systems comprises a loyalty system adapted to maintain information related to a loyalty account under a customer loyalty program.

32. The system of claim 16, wherein at least one of the plurality of acquirer systems comprises an stored value system adapted to maintain information related to a stored value account.

30. The system 16, wherein at least one of the plurality of acquirer systems comprises an enrollment system adapted to enroll the mobile device for use with the system.

33. A machine-readable medium having stored thereon a series of instruction which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to provide a plurality of mobile commerce functions by:

receiving a communication related to a function of a mobile wallet application of a mobile device;

identifying one or more of a plurality of acquirer systems for handling of the communication based on the function of the mobile wallet application to which the communication relates; and

routing the communication to the identified one or more acquirer systems for handling of the communication.

34. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, further comprising:

receiving a reply to the communication from at least one of the identified one or more acquirer systems; and

sending the reply to a recipient.

35. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a mobile wallet server.

36. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a merchant system.

37. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from a point-of-sale device.

38. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, wherein receiving the communication comprises receiving the communication from an acquirer system.

39. The machine-readable medium of claim 34, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a mobile wallet server.

40. The machine-readable medium of claim 34, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a merchant system.

41. The machine-readable medium of claim 34, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to a point-of-sale device.

42. The machine-readable medium of claim 34, wherein sending the reply to the recipient comprises sending the reply to an acquirer system.
