1. A machine implemented method, comprising:

  • receiving a new electronic mail message (email) that is part of an email conversation, wherein the email conversation spans across a plurality of separate emails;

    accessing the new email to obtain a set of information pertaining to the new email;

    accessing an email conversation data structure that is associated with the email conversation, the email conversation data structure comprising information pertaining to each of the emails in the email conversation that has been received and accessed;

    updating the email conversation data structure to include the set of information pertaining to the new email;

    determining whether the email conversation data structure is missing information pertaining to a previously sent email in the email conversation, thereby indicating that the previously sent email has not been received and accessed; and

    in response to a determination that the email conversation data structure is missing information pertaining to a previously sent email in the email conversation, sending a request email to a certain participant of the email conversation to request that the previously sent email be sent again.
