Abstract

A system and method for providing items to users and, more particularly, a system and method for rating items and placing such items into a queued list. The method includes providing an item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list and placing the item into a queued list with respect to other items based on a rating. The system includes a computer infrastructure being operable to provide a rated item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list and place the rated item in a queued list with respect to other items.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

providing a rated item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list; and

placing the rated item into a queued list with respect to other items based on the rating.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the item is at least one of an article, website, link, document and a feed.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the rating is provided prior to sending to the recipient.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the item is placed, automatically, at a certain location in the queued list, based on the rating which is based on at least one of:

a score provided by the sender;

a weight assigned to the sender;

a number of times the item has been sent to the recipient; and

a number of times the item has been read by other users.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising resorting the queued list upon at least one of:

receipt of additional items;

receipt of another item which is already on the list;

after the item has been read by the recipient; and

expiration of the item.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising time stamping the item.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising deleting the item from the queued list after an expiration of the item or after the item has been read, and resorting the queued list after the item has been deleted or read.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the item is provided to the recipient via RSS web based feed format.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the RSS is specified in XML.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising receiving at least one of a description of the item, a comment on the item, a custom link, a link to the item, and a sender'"'"'s IM name.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein a weight is assigned to a sender of the item, which increases or decreases an importance of the item with respect to the other items.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a mechanism on the browser which, when activated, copies a link of a browser page or link on the browser page.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising bringing up a window that allows the user to at least one of comment and rate the item.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the queued list is provided with a value next to the item in the queued list.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the queued list is provided with a name of the sender.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the steps of claim 1 are provided by a service provider.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein a service provider at least one of creates, maintains and supports a computer infrastructure that performs the steps of claim 1.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the steps of claim 1 are provided on a subscription, advertising, and/or fee basis.

19. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing information associated with the item in a database.

20. A system for deploying an application in a computing environment, comprising a computer infrastructure being operable to provide a rated item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list and place the rated item in a queued list with respect to other items.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the item is at least one of an article, website, link, document and a feed.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the item is placed, automatically, at a certain location in the queued list, based on the rating which is based on at least one of:

a score provided by a sender;

a weight assigned to the sender;

a number of times the item has been sent to the recipient; and

a number of times the item has been read by other users.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to resort the queued list upon at least one of:

receipt of additional items;

receipt of another item which is already on the list;

after the item has been read by the recipient; and

expiration of the item.

24. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to time stamp the item and delete the item from the queued list after an expiration of the item or after the item has been read, and resort the queued list after the item has been deleted or read.

25. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to receive or send at least one of a description of the item, a comment on the item, a custom link, a link to the item, and a sender'"'"'s IM name.

26. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to provide a weight to a sender of the item, which increases or decreases an importance of the item with respect to the other items.

27. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to copy a link of a browser page or link on the browser page and provide the link of a browser page or the link on the browser page to the recipient as the item.

28. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to bring up a window that is configured to allow the user to at least one of comment and score the item.

29. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is provided by a service provider.

30. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is at least one of created, maintained, deployed and supported by a service provider for a fee.

31. The system of claim 20, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to store information associated with the item in a database.

32. A computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having readable program code embodied in the medium, the computer program product includes at least one component to:

one of provide an item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list and receive an item from the web browser upon activation of a mechanism which links a URL of the item, the item being one of a link from a browser page or a link to the browser page; and

place the item into a queued list on a recipient'"'"'s display with respect to other items based on at least a score provided by a sender of the item.

33. A method for deploying an application in a computing environment,

comprising a computer infrastructure being operable to:

providing a rated item from a web browser to a recipient on a preferred list; and

placing the rated item into a queued list with respect to other items based on the rating.
