Abstract

A mounting coupling for a fire sprinkler support system includes an adjustable opening for receiving a sprinkler reducer coupling that allows insertion of the sprinkler coupling into the mounting coupling with a sprinkler head assembled thereto. The mounting coupling can be securely engaged to the reducer coupling and fixed to a support bar of the sprinkler support system using a single fastener thereby providing improved installation and functionality.

Claims

1. A mounting coupling for a sprinkler support system, comprising:

an inner bracket adapted to be slidably received on a support bar;

an outer bracket having a base portion with a threaded aperture and at least one jaw mount portion, said inner bracket being at least partially received by said outer bracket;

a threaded fastener engaged with said threaded aperture of said outer bracket and adapted to engage said inner bracket; and

at least one pivot jaw mounted to said at least one jaw mount portion, said at least one pivot jaw being adapted to engage one of a sprinkler head and a sprinkler coupling.

2. The mounting coupling according to claim 1, wherein said outer bracket includes a pair of jaw mount portions and a pair of pivot jaws are mounted to respective ones of said pair of jaw mount portions.

3. The mounting coupling according to claim 1, wherein said at least one pivot jaw is mounted to said at least one mounting portion by a fastener.

4. The mounting coupling according to claim 3, wherein said fastener is a rivet.

The mounting coupling according to claim 1, wherein said inner bracket includes an upper wall and a lower wall each connected to a base wall and a pair of end walls extending between said upper and lower walls, said pair of end walls each including an aperture therein adapted for slidably receiving the support rod.

6. The mounting coupling according to claim 5, wherein said upper and lower walls of said inner bracket each include a recess portion on an edge thereof, said recess portions adapted to received one of a sprinkler head and a sprinkler coupling.

7. The mounting coupling according to claim 6, wherein said recess portion has a polygonal shape.

8. The mounting coupling according to claim 1, wherein said outer bracket includes an upper and a lower wall extending from opposite edges of said base portion, said upper and lower wall each including a jaw mount portion.

9. A mounting coupling for a sprinkler support system, comprising:

an inner bracket adapted to be slidably received on a support bar;

an outer bracket having a base portion having at least one jaw mount portion, said inner bracket being at least partially received by said outer bracket;

means mounted to one of said inner and outer brackets for applying a separating force against the other of said inner and outer brackets; and

at least one pivot jaw mounted to said at least one jaw mount portion.

10. The mounting coupling according to claim 9, wherein said outer bracket includes a pair of jaw mount portions and a pair of pivot jaws are mounted to respective ones of said pair of jaw mount portions.

11. The mounting coupling according to claim 9, wherein said at least one pivot jaw is mounted to said at least one mounting portion by a fastener.

12. The mounting coupling according to claim 11, wherein said fastener is a rivet.

13. The mounting coupling according to claim 9, wherein said inner bracket includes an upper wall and a lower wall each connected to a base wall and a pair of end walls extending between said upper and lower walls, said pair of end walls each including an aperture therein adapted for slidably receiving the support rod.

14. The mounting coupling according to claim 13, wherein said upper and lower walls of said inner bracket each include a recess portion on an edge thereof, said recess portions adapted to received one of a sprinkler head and a sprinkler coupling.

15. The mounting coupling according to claim 14, wherein said recess portion has a polygonal shape.

16. The mounting coupling according to claim 9, wherein said outer bracket includes an upper and a lower wall extending from opposite edges of said base portion, said upper and lower wall each including a jaw mount portion.

17. A sprinkler support system, comprising:

a support bar;

a bracket system slidably received on said support bar, said bracket assembly including at least one jaw mount portion;

at least one pivot jaw pivotally mounted to said at least one jaw mount portion, said at least one pivot jaw adapted to engage one of a sprinkler head and a sprinkler coupling.

18. The sprinkler support system according to claim 17, further comprising means mounted to said bracket system for applying a tension force against the support bar.

19. The sprinkler support system according to claim 17, wherein said bracket system includes a pair of jaw mount portions and a pair of pivot jaws are mounted to respective ones of said pair of jaw mount portions.

20. The sprinkler support system according to claim 17, wherein said bracket system includes an inner bracket and an outer bracket.
