Abstract

The present invention relates to target acquisition and related systems and devices, and more particularly to telescopic gunsights and associated equipment used to achieve shooting accuracy at, for example, close ranges, medium ranges and extreme ranges. The present invention also provides targets and methods of using the systems to achieve enhanced shooting accuracy.

Claims

1. A target for shooting calibration, comprising markings configured to assess:

1) initial zeroing of a firearm; and

     2) accuracy of a plurality of elevation adjustments at a predetermined distance from the shooter.

2. The target of claim 1, wherein said markings comprise primary vertical and horizontal lines intersecting on the target, and a plurality of secondary horizontal lines at defined unit increments above and below the primary horizontal lines, said increments defined by said elevation adjustments.

3. The target of claim 2, wherein said markings further comprise numerical unit measurements labeling said secondary horizontal lines.

4. The target of claim 2, further comprising a plurality of secondary vertical lines intersecting with said secondary horizontal lines.

5. The target of claim 4, wherein said secondary vertical lines are at defined unit increments to the left and right of the primary vertical line, said increments defined by windage adjustments.

6. The target of claim 1, wherein said predetermined distance is 100 yards or 100 meters.

7. The target of claim 1, further comprising markings configured to assess cant.

8. The target of claim 2, further comprising one or more markings that define a bull'"'"'s-eye.

9. The target of claim 8, wherein at least one of said bull'"'"'s-eye markings is at the intersection of said primary horizontal and vertical lines.

10. The target of claim 8, wherein at least one of said bull'"'"'s-eye markings comprises a circular shape.

11. The target of claim 10, wherein said circular shape comprises two or more concentric circles.

12. The target of claim 8, wherein a plurality of said bull'"'"'s-eye markings are positioned at predefined distances along said secondary horizontal lines.

17. The target of claim 1 or claim 13, wherein said target has an external shape that is not square or rectangular.

18. The target of claim 17, wherein said external shape comprises a plurality of edges that are not parallel or perpendicular with any other edge.

19. A set of targets comprising two or more targets of any of claims 1-18.

20. A shooting system comprising:

1) a target of claim 1; and

     2) one or more shooting devices.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein said one or more shooting devices are selected from the group consisting of:

a riflescope, a reticle, a firearm, ballistics software, a spotting scope, a cant indicator, a computing device, a laser, night-vision equipment, and a device that measures or calculates an environment condition.

22. A method for shooting calibration, comprising:

providing a target of any of claims 1-18, and shooting at said target with a firearm.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein a plurality of shots are taken.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein at least one of said plurality of shots is taken to assess zero position.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein at least two of said plurality of shots are taken with different elevation adjustments.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein at least two of said plurality of shots are taken with different windage adjustments.

27. The method of claim 23, wherein said plurality of shots comprises a series of shots of increasing elevation adjustments, followed by a series of shots of decreasing elevation adjustments.

28. The method of claim 23, wherein cant is validated after said shots are taken.

29. The method of claim 23, wherein results are said shots are recorded.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein information about the firearm or shooter is further recorded.

31. The method of claim 22, wherein said target is placed at said predefined range from a shooter at a target range.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein said target range employs a plurality of said targets.

13. A target for shooting calibration, comprising two or more zones, each of said two or more zones having marking configured to assess accuracy of a plurality of elevation adjustments of a target acquisition device, at a single predetermined distance from the shooter.

14. The target of claim 13, comprising three zones.

15. The target of claim 13, further comprising marking configured to assess cant.

16. The target of claim 13, wherein each of said zones comprises a primary horizontal and vertical line and a plurality of secondary horizontal lines above said primary horizontal lines, said secondary horizontal lines positioned at defined unit increments, said increments defined by said elevation adjustments
