Abstract

The present invention provides a transgenic corn event MON89034, and cells, seeds, and plants comprising DNA diagnostic for the corn event. The invention also provides compositions comprising nucleotide sequences that are diagnostic for said corn event in a sample, methods for detecting the presence of said corn event nucleotide sequences in a sample, probes and primers for use in detecting nucleotide sequences that are diagnostic for the presence of said corn event in a sample, growing the seeds of such corn event into corn plants, and breeding to produce corn plants comprising DNA diagnostic for the corn event.

Claims

1. A transgenic corn plant designated as transgenic corn event MON89034, representative seed for obtaining said plant, for producing progeny, for obtaining growing plants, or for producing a crop of seed comprising said transgenic corn event, deposited with American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) having accession number PTA-7455.

2. The transgenic corn plant according to claim 1, comprising DNA diagnostic for said event, wherein said DNA comprises a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1, SEQ ID NO;

2, SEQ ID NO;

3, SEQ ID NO;

4, and SEQ ID NO;

3. The transgenic corn plant, progeny of said plant, cells of a plant grown from said plant, or seed produced from said plant, according to claim 2, wherein said DNA diagnostic for said event is further selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1 and SEQ ID NO;

4. The transgenic corn plant according to claim 3 processed into a commodity or foodstuff selected from the group consisting of corn meal, corn flour, corn oil, corn protein, ethanol, and DDGS.

5. The transgenic corn plant of claim 1, exhibiting resistance to lepidopteran insect infestation.

6. The transgenic corn plant according to claim 1, comprising in the genome of the cells of said plant a DNA molecule selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1 and SEQ ID NO;

2.

7. A hybrid corn plant comprising DNA diagnostic for transgenic corn event MON89034 produced by breeding a transgenic corn event MON89034 together with a corn plant other than event MON89034.

8. Seed of the hybrid corn plant of claim 7, wherein said seed comprise said DNA.

9. A hybrid corn plant comprising DNA diagnostic for the transgenic corn event MON89034.

10. Seed of the hybrid corn plant of claim 9, wherein said seed comprises DNA diagnostic for transgenic corn event MON89034.

11. A corn plant grown from seed comprising DNA diagnostic for transgenic corn event MON89034.

12. A cell, seed produced from, or tissue collected from the corn plant of claim 11, wherein said cell, seed, or tissue comprises said DNA.

13. An insect resistant corn plant, or parts thereof, seed of said corn plant having been deposited with the American Type Culture Collection under accession number PTA-7455.

15. Progeny cells of the insect resistant corn plant cell of claim 13 wherein DNA having at least one nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1, SEQ ID NO;

2, SEQ ID NO;

3, SEQ ID NO;

4, and SEQ ID NO;

5 form part of the plant cell'"'"'s genome.

16. The progeny cells of claim 18, wherein said cells are found within a seed of a plant regenerated or grown from the corn plant cell or progeny cells of claim 15, wherein said seed comprises said at least one nucleotide sequence.

20. The insect resistant corn plant cell of claim 13, wherein the corn plant cell is homozygous for the nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1, SEQ ID NO;

2, SEQ ID NO;

3, SEQ ID NO;

4, and SEQ ID NO;

5.

14. An insect resistant corn plant cell, wherein DNA having at least one nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1, SEQ ID NO;

2, SEQ ID NO;

3, SEQ ID NO;

4, and SEQ ID NO;

5 form part of the plant cell'"'"'s genome.

17. An insect resistant corn plant, or a part thereof, wherein DNA encoding Cry2Ab and DNA having nucleotide sequences of SEQ ID NO:

1 and SEQ ID NO;

2 form a part of the genome in the cells of said plant or part thereof.

18. The insect resistant corn plant cell of claim 17, further comprising a DNA encoding Cry1A.105.

19. The insect resistant corn plant of claim 18, wherein the cells of the corn plant (other than the gametes) are heterozygous for the nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1, SEQ ID NO;

2, SEQ ID NO;

3, SEQ ID NO;

4, and SEQ ID NO;

21. A stably transformed maize plant cell, the DNA of which produces a DNA amplicon comprising SEQ ID NO:

1 or SEQ ID NO;

2 when subjected to a method of detecting the presence of a corn event MON89034 polynucleotide in a biological sample, the method comprising;

(a) contacting the sample with a DNA primer pair;

(b) performing a nucleic acid amplification reaction, thereby producing an amplicon; and

(c) detecting said amplicon;

wherein said amplicon comprises SEQ ID NO;

1 or SEQ ID NO;

2 and the detection of said amplicon is diagnostic for the presence of corn event MON89034 in said sample.

22. The stably transformed maize plant cell of claim 21, wherein said DNA primer pair comprises the nucleotide sequences as set forth in SEQ ID NO:

6 and SEQ ID NO;

23. A hybrid corn plant wherein at least one parent is corn event MON89034.

24. Pollen, ovule, seed, roots, or leaves produced from a corn plant generated or grown from the hybrid corn plant of claim 23, wherein said pollen, ovule, seed, roots, or leaves comprise DNA diagnostic for the transgenic corn event MON89034.

25. Progeny of the hybrid corn plant MON89034 of claim 23, wherein cells of said progeny comprise in their genome the sequences as set forth in SEQ ID NO:

1 and SEQ ID NO;

2.

26. A commodity or foodstuff comprising corn event MON89034 nucleotide sequences, wherein said sequences are selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:

1 and SEQ ID NO;

2.

27. The commodity or foodstuff of claim 26 selected from the group consisting of corn oil, corn starch, corn meal, corn flour, a cosmetic, and a bulking agent.
