Abstract

A cellular telephone handset stores audio files previously recorded by the user as well as voice mail messages from other users and selectively transmitted selected ones of these files to the remote listener, or to the voice mail system of a remote user. Voice mail messages are composed, stored, transmitted, forwarded and reviewed using a voice mail system without ringing the remote party'"'"'s telephone, much as email is composed, stored, transmitted and reviewed using an email server.

Claims

1. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object, said method comprising, in combination, the steps of:

recording at least one spoken audio message as an audio file,

employing one or more location detectors to produced location data indicating the position and identity of said object at different times,

transmitting said location data from said one or more detectors to a first computer,

employing said first computer to evaluate said location data in accordance with one or more rules, each of said rules containing a condition part and an action part, said condition part defining at least one relative position condition to be satisfied by said object and each action part defining the manner in which said audio file is to be delivered, and

delivering said audio file in the manner specified by the action part of each of said rules whose condition part is satisfied by said location data.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said audio file is stored as a member of a collection of different audio files and wherein said action part specifies the particular audio file in said collection to be delivered when said condition part is satisfied.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 2 wherein said step of recording at least one spoken message as an audio file is performed using the microphone in a telephone stationset or a cellular telephone.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 3 further including the steps of transmitting said audio file from said telephone stationset or cellular telephone to a remote location and storing said audio file at said remote location.

5. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 3 further including storing said audio file in said telephone stationset or cellular telephone.

6. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 2 wherein said action part further specifies a destination to which said audio file is to be delivered.

7. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said action part further specifies a destination to which said audio file is to be delivered.

8. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first computer is a microprocessor in a telephone stationset or a cellular telephone.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 8 wherein said step of recording at least one spoken message as an audio file is performed using the microphone in said telephone stationset or said cellular telephone.

10. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 9 further including the step of storing said audio file in said telephone stationset or cellular telephone.

11. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 9 further including the steps of transmitting said audio file to a remote location and storing said audio file at said remote location.

12. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 further including the step of transmitting information defining said one or more rules to said first computer from a remote location.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 12 wherein said audio file is stored as a member of a collection of different audio files and wherein said action part specifies the particular audio file in said collection to be delivered when said condition part is satisfied.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 13 wherein said step of recording at least one spoken message is performed using the microphone in a telephone stationset or a cellular telephone coupled to said data transmission network.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 12 wherein said step of transmitting information defining said one or more rules to said first computer from a remote location employs a Web server to accept said one or more rules from a remotely located user via the Internet.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first computer is or is connected to a Web server computer and further including the step of employing said Web server to accept said one or more rules from a user via the Internet.

17. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said condition part further specifies a time of day condition which must also be satisfied when said relative position condition is satisfied.

18. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 1 wherein said object is a mobile cellular telephone.

19. The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 18 wherein one of said one or more location detectors is a proximity detector that indicates when said cellular phone is near to said proximity detector.

The method for delivering a pre-recorded audio message in response to the changing position of at least one object as set forth in claim 18 wherein one of said one or more location detectors is a GPS or MPS position sensor that periodically determines the position of said mobile cellular telephone.
