Abstract

A health management system (10) comprises educational content sessions (150, 152, . . . ) each being directed toward achieving a health management goal. A user interface (48) is configured for presenting the content sessions (150, 152, . . . ). At least one feedback path (48, 82, 120, 122) provides at least one input which includes an item of interest. A content flow engine (170) configured to automatically select the content sessions (150, 152) based on the at least item of interest and on content flow rules and initiate presentation of the selected content sessions via the user interface (48).

Claims

1. A health management system (10) comprising:

educational content sessions (150, 152, . . . ) each being directed toward achieving a health management goal;

a user interface (48) configured for presenting the content sessions (150, 152, . . . );

at least one feedback path (48, 82, 120, 122) from a user providing at least one input which includes an item of interest; and

a content flow engine (170) configured to automatically select the content sessions (150, 152) based on the at least item of interest and on content flow rules and initiate presentation of the selected content sessions for the user via the user interface (48).

2. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the at least one feedback path (48, 82, 120, 122) includes:

a biometric device (82), the at least one input including biometric data acquired by the biometric device which includes a triggering event.

3. The health management system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the triggering event includes one of:

a vital sign measurement value beyond a predetermined threshold;

a vital sign measurement value which matches a preselected criteria; and

a vital sign measurement value beyond a dynamic threshold based on a prior measurement of the vital sign.

4. The health management system as set forth in claim 2, further including:

a survey server (78) which generates a reflexive survey in response to the triggering event which is identified in the acquired biometric data, which survey is sent to at least one of the user and a third party.

5. The health management system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the survey includes:

a survey, quiz, test, or questionnaire including at least one question presented by the user interface (48), the at least one input including a user response via a user interface (48).

6. The health management system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the triggering event includes one of:

a vital sign measurement value beyond a predetermined threshold;

an answer to the survey which matches a preselected criteria;

a vital sign measurement value which matches a preselected criteria; and

a vital sign measurement value beyond a dynamic threshold based on a prior measurement of the vital sign.

7. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, further including:

an educational server (80) which stores the content sessions (150, 152) and at least one patient profile (140) and wherein the content flow engine (170) further selects the content sessions based on the patient profile (140).

8. The health management system as set forth in claim 7, further including:

a computer (190) embodying at least the educational server (80), the user interface (48), and the content flow engine (170), the at least one patient profile (140) consisting of exactly one patient profile.

The health management system as set forth in claim 7, wherein the at least one patient profile (140) includes a plurality of patient profiles (140₁, 140₂, 140₃, . . . 140_n), and the educational server (80) communicates with user interfaces (48) associated with a plurality of different patients, each patient being profiled by a corresponding patient profile.

10. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the content flow rules include a rule calling for a content session responsive to a selected value or value range of the at least one input.

11. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the user interface (48) includes a television set (50) on which the content sessions are displayed, and the at least one feedback path includes a television remote (70).

12. A health management system comprising:

an educational server (80) communicating with a plurality of patients, the educational server (80) storing at least;

a plurality of content sessions (150, 152, . . . ) directed toward achieving a health management goal, and

a plurality of patient profiles (140₁, 140₂, 140₃, . . . , 140_n) each corresponding to a respective patient,

the educational server (80) further including a content flow engine (170) configured to control presentation of content sessions to each patient based on at least one feedback input from the patient and on content flow rules.

13. The health management system as set forth in claim 12, further including:

a plurality of biometric devices (82), the at least one feedback input from the patient being provided by at least one of the plurality of biometric monitors which is monitoring the patient.

14. The health management system as set forth in claim 13, further including:

a measurement server (76) which monitors for a triggering event from at least one of the biometric devices (82) and a manual patient input, the measurement server (76) causing the content flow engine (170) to select the content session (150, 152, . . . ) in accordance with the monitored triggering event and the patient profile of the corresponding patient.

15. A health management system including:

a host center (16) which includes the educational server (80) as set forth in claim 12; and

a plurality of patient stations (14) each connected with the host center (16) to generate and provide the at least one feedback causing the content flow engine (170) to select the content session (150, 152, . . . ) in accordance with the provided feedback.

16. A health management method comprising:

receiving at least one physiological condition input of interest of a patient; and

automatically starting presentation of educational content sessions based on the physiological condition input and on content flow rules.

17. The health management method as set forth in claim 16, wherein the physiological condition input is generated by a biometric monitoring device.

18. The health management method as set forth in claim 17, further including:

generating a reflexive survey in response to a triggering event in the physiological condition input; and

one of

sending the survey to the patient and to a third party.

19. The health management method as set forth in claim 18, wherein the survey includes:

a survey, quiz, test, or questionnaire including at least one question presented by a user interface (48), the physiological condition input including a user survey response via a user interface.

20. The health management method as set forth in claim 19, wherein the triggering event includes one of:

a vital sign measurement value beyond a predetermined threshold;

an answer to the survey which matches a preselected criteria;

a vital sign measurement value which matches a preselected criteria; and

a vital sign measurement value beyond a dynamic threshold based on a prior measurement of the vital sign.

21. A user interface (48), accessible by a user, for receiving and sending information to and from a remote station (12, 16, 110) via at least one server (42), the user interface comprising:

a display (54), which is configured for presenting an educational content session transmitted by the server, the educational content session is generated by the server in response to receiving an item of interest from the user interface and is directed toward achieving a health management goal.
