Abstract

An incoming call is detected from a calling entity. If the incoming call is associated with a subscription to presence information media data associated with the subscription can be output through an output unit in the telephone terminal. If the incoming call is determined to be associated with a subscription to presence information, it is determined whether the media data is present in the terminal, and if the media data is present in the terminal, the media data is output through an output unit in the telephone terminal.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a communication module;

at least one communication terminal;

at least one presence server module communicatively coupled to the communication module, and

at least one processor in the communication module, the at least one processor being configured to;

detect an incoming call to the communication module;

determine if the incoming call is associated with a subscription to presence information stored in the presence server module; and

output media data, obtained from the presence server module corresponding to the subscription to presence information, from an output unit of the apparatus.

The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the processor is further configured to determine, after determining that the incoming call is associated with a subscription to presence information, whether media data corresponding to the subscription is stored in the presence server module, and downloading the media data to the presence server module if the media data is not stored.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising that the presence server module is configured to communicate with a presence sever to determine whether the incoming call is associated with a subscription and to download any media item associated with the subscription not already stored.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the apparatus comprises a mobile communication terminal.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the media data is a ring-tone, a media presentation or a video clip.

6. A computer program product comprising computer readable program code means stored in a memory, the computer program product comprising:

computer readable program code means for causing a computer to detect an incoming call;

computer readable program code means for causing a computer to determine whether a subscription to presence information is associated with the incoming call; and

computer readable program code means for causing a computer to output media data associated with the subscription.

7. The computer program product of claim 6 further comprising computer readable program code means for causing a computer to download media data associated with the subscription, if not previously downloaded.

8. The computer program product of claim 6 further comprising computer readable program code means for causing a computer to communicate with a presence server to determine whether a caller identity associated with the incoming call is associated with a subscription and to download any new media data from the presence sever.

9. The computer program product of claim 6 further comprising computer readable program code means for causing a computer to identify media data associated with the subscription and store the media data.

10. A system comprising:

at least one communication terminal;

at least one presence server communicatively coupled to the at least one communication terminal; and

at least one processor in the at least one communication terminal, the at least one processor being configured to;

detect an incoming call to the at least one communication terminal;

determine if a subscription to presence information is associated with the incoming call; and

output media data associated with the subscription.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to communicate with the presence server to determine if a subscription to presence information is associated with the incoming call, and to download any new media data associated with the subscription.

12. The system of claim 10 wherein the media data is a ring tone, media presentation or video clip.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein the at least one presence server is an Internet based service.

14. The system of claim 10 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to identify media stored in the at least one communication terminal that corresponds to media data associated with the subscription.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to output a default media data if the incoming call is not associated with a subscription.

16. The system of claim 10 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to determine a caller identity associated with the incoming call and communicate the caller identity to the at least one presence server to determine if a subscription to presence information is associated with the caller identity.
