DEVICE IN A SYSTEM OPERATING WITH CAN-PROTOCOL AND IN A CONTROL AND/OR SUPERVISION SYSTEM
First Claim
1. A communication system for controlling a plurality of devices using the CAN network protocol comprising:
- a plurality of CAN network modules each connected to an associated one of said devices for controlling each device in accordance with a received CAN message;
a transceiver connected to a CAN network module that receives CAN messages, said transceiver including a processor that converts each received CAN message to a non-CAN network message; and
a monitoring and control unit comprising;
a monitoring and control transceiver which communicates with said transceiver; and
a monitoring/control processor that at least one of generates and receives messages that at least one of monitor and control said plurality of CAN network modules,wherein the processor in said transceiver converts said received CAN message to a non- CAN network message by removing stuff bits in a data field and removing a CAN-related bit in a trailer of said received CAN message, andwherein the transmitter transmits only a portion of said received CAN message to said monitoring and control unit.

Abstract
A control or supervision system incorporates a digital serial communication and modules which are mutually communicable to this and operate with CAN-protocol. A control desk can be wirelessly connected to one or more modules operating with a signal protocol which takes no account of arbitration and/or confirmation functions appearing in the CAN-system. A particular receiving communication part executes the conversion of said signal protocol to the signal protocol of the CAN-system. A device for controlling a function in a first module in a CAN-system via a wireless connection to a second module in said system. A system of mutually separate units, whereof each unit operates with a CAN-signalling protocol, intercommunicable by means of radiocommunications operating with an identification system in which a key allocation between the units is based upon identities that are assigned by a module in the unit or a master system.

3. A communication system for controlling a plurality of devices using the CAN network protocol comprising:
-
a CAN network module connected to each of said devices for controlling each device in accordance with a received CAN message; a transceiver connected to said CAN network for receiving CAN messages, said transceiver including a processor that converts a message received from a respectively connected module to a non-CAN network message; and a monitoring and control unit comprising; a transceiver which communicates with said transceiver; and a processor for at least one of generating and receiving messages for at least one of monitoring and controlling said plurality of devices, wherein said transceiver is connected to said CAN network converting said CAN messages into a message containing only a portion of said CAN message by removing stuff bits in a data field and removing an acknowledge (ACK) bit and CRC bits in a trailer of said CAN message for transmission to said monitoring/control unit.

4. A processor-readable medium storing a plurality of executable program instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to implement a method for transferring CAN network frames between segments of a CAN network comprising:
-
receiving a CAN network frame on one of said segments of the CAN network; removing stuff bits in a data field and removing a portion of said CAN network frame including an acknowledgement bit in a CAN trailer portion to create a non CAN frame for transmission to the other segment; transmitting said non CAN frame to said other segment; receiving said non CAN frame at said other segment; restoring said CAN network frame from said received frame by inserting, in said non CAN frame, said stuff bits and a reconstructed portion generated by said other segment that contains a same bit pattern as in said CAN network frame; and inserting said restored CAN network frame on said other segment. - View Dependent Claims (5, 6, 7, 8)
