Abstract

In a method and a device for controlling the display on a display area of a display device in a transportation device, data are generated for the display of a background region and data for the display in a subregion of the display area. The display in the subregion covers the display of the background region, and the display content in the subregion displays at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region. The subregion in the display is shifted relative to the display content of the background region, or the display content of the background region is shifted relative to the subregion, the display content in the subregion being updated in the process, so that, in the new relative position between the subregion and the display content of the background region, it continues to display at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a display on a display area of a display device in a transportation device, comprising:

generating data for displaying a background region and data for displaying a subregion of the display area, the display of the subregion covering the display of the background region;

displaying in display content in the subregion at least a portion of display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region, at least one of (a) the subregion in the display being shifted relative to the display content of the background region and (b) the display content of the background region being shifted relative to the subregion as a function of an input signal; and

updating the display content in the subregion so that, in a new relative position between the subregion and the display content of the background region, at least at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subsection in a different manner than in the background region is continued to be displayed

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the display content in the subregion is displayed in the displaying step to display at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion at a different scale than in the background region.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising varying at least one of (a) a scale of the display in the subregion and (b) a scale of the display in the background region as a function of an input signal.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising varying at least one of (a) a size and (b) a shape of the subregion as a function of an input signal, a scale of the display content in the subregion remaining unchanged.

5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising receiving an input from a user to generate the input signal by at least one of (a) touching the display area by at least one object and (b) bringing at least one object into close proximity to the display area and detecting a position of the object.

6. The method according to claim 5, further comprising varying a scale of the display content in at least one of (a) the subregion and (b) the background region by bringing the object closer to a corresponding region of the display area.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the display content includes geographic information.

8. The method according to claim 7, further comprising displaying in the subregion a geographic detail map of a covered geographic map of the background region.

9. The method according to claim 8, wherein the detail map includes more supplementary information than a map of the background region.

10. The method according to claim 9, further comprising displaying the detail map to display the supplementary information in a different manner than the map of the background region.

11. A device for controlling a display on a display area of a display device in transportation device, comprising:

a graphics control unit configured to generate data to display of a background region and data to display in a subregion of the display area, the display in the subregion covering the display of the background region, display content in the subregion adapted to display at least a portion of display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region, the graphics control unit configured to generate display data as a function of an input signal, the graphics control unit configured to display at least one of (a) the subregion in the display shifted relative to the display content of the background region and (b) the display content of the background region shifted relative to the subregion and to update the display content in the subregion, so that, in a new relative position between the subregion and the display content of the background region, the display device continues to display at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region.

12. The device according to claim 11, wherein the display content in the subregion is adapted to displays at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion at a different scale than in the background region.

13. The device according to claim 11, wherein at least one of (a) a scale of the display in the subregion, (b) a scale of the display in the background region, and (c) at least one of (i) a size and (ii) a shape of the subregion is variable based on the input signal.

14. The device according to claim 11, wherein the graphics control device includes an input unit configured to receive input of a user and to generate the input signal.

15. The device according to claim 14, wherein the input unit includes a device configured to detect a position of at least one object in front of the display area within the transportation device.

16. The device according to claim 15, wherein the position detection device includes a touch-sensitive surface of the display area.

17. The device according to claim 15, wherein the position detection device is configured to detect movement of a finger of a user.

18. The device according to claim 14, wherein the input unit includes a device configured to generate the input signal as a function of a detected position of an object and as a function of the display content.

19. The device according to claim 14, wherein the input unit includes a proximity sensor configured to detect a distance of an object from the displace surface.

20. A navigation system for a vehicle, comprising:

a device configured to control a display on a display area of a display device in the vehicle, the device including;

a graphics control unit configured to generate data to display of a background region and data to display in a subregion of the display area, the display in the subregion covering the display of the background region, display content in the subregion adapted to display at least a portion of display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region, the graphics control unit configured to generate display data as a function of an input signal, the graphics control unit configured to display at least one of (a) the subregion in the display shifted relative to the display content of the background region and (b) the display content of the background region shifted relative to the subregion and to update the display content in the subregion, so that, in a new relative position between the subregion and the display content of the background region, the display device continues to display at least a portion of the display content of the background region covered by the subregion in a different manner than in the background region; and

a unit configured to generate the input signal for the graphics control device.

21. The navigation system according to claim 20, wherein the graphics control device is configured to generate display data to display, in the subregion, a geographic detail map of a covered geographic map of the background region.
