Abstract

A drug delivery device capable of working in at least two different modes which includes a dose injection mode and a set-up mode. The drug delivery device automatically changes from the dose injection mode to the set-up mode and vice versa in accordance with the detection of the cover by a cover detection switch. In the dose injection mode doses can be set and injected; in the set-up mode various parameters assisting the use of the drug delivery device can be set. This setting is preferably done by selecting the parameters from a menu, also in this mode historical data stored in the device can be viewed.

Claims

1. A drug delivery device, comprising:

a housing (1) containing an electronic circuit (14),

a display (8) for displaying a menu controlled by the electronic circuit (14),

operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) for operating the device,

a cap or cover (2) adapted to cover at least an end of the housing (1)

cover detection means (11) adapted to detect the presence of the cap or cover (2), characterized by the electronic circuit having at least two alternative modes;

a dose injection mode in which operation of the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) can set the size of a dose or accept or cancel the dose size and inject the dose, or

a set-up mode in which operation of the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) can

set a number of parameters in the menu controlled by the electronic circuit (14), and wherein the electronic circuit (14) is switched to the dose injection mode when no cap or cover (2) is detected by the cover detection means (11) and the electronic circuit is switched to the set-up mode when a cap or cover (2) is detected by the cover detection means (11).

A drug delivery device as defined in claim 1, characterized in that the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) operated to set the size of a dose to be injected when in the dose injection mode, and the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) operated to set a number of parameters in the menu when in the set-up mode are at least partly the same.

3. A drug delivery device as defined in claim 1, characterized in that the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) comprise dose setting button means (5, 5a, 5b), escape button means (6), accept button means (7) and injection button means (9).

A drug delivery device as defined in claim 1, wherein the operating means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) comprise dose setting button means (5, 5a, 5b), escape button means (6), accept button means (7) and injection button means (9), characterized by the button means (5, 5a, 5b, 6, 7, 9) being four or five separate dedicated buttons means.

5. A drug delivery device as defined in claim 1, characterized in that a number of parameters can be set in the set-up mode, the parameters including one or more of the following parameters:

Languages of use

Date and time

Insulin type

Maximum dose size

Maximum daily quantity

Alarm functions

6. A drug delivery device as defined in claim 1, characterized in that historically data stored can be viewed in the set-up mode.
