Abstract

Systems and methods in accordance with various embodiments of the present invention provide for representing a plurality of data values of a hierarchical dataset as graphical elements in a configurable data visualization. A first data visualization may be displayed in a data visualization display page, along with a user interface. A selection of a rendered root node and rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in a second data visualization is received from the user interface. Based on the selection of the rendered root node and rendered leaf nodes, a number of depth levels to display is determined. Also, which of the depth levels to display are identified based on the selection of the rendered root node and rendered leaf nodes. The second data visualization is rendered based on the determined number of depth levels and the identified depth levels.

Claims

1. A method for representing a plurality of data values of a hierarchical dataset as graphical elements in a configurable data visualization, comprising:

displaying a first data visualization and a user interface in a data visualization display page, the first data visualization based on a default configuration of hierarchical depth levels of the dataset;

receiving through the user interface a selection of a rendered root node to be displayed in a second data visualization and a selection of rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization;

determining a number of depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes;

identifying which of the depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes; and

rendering the second data visualization based on the determined number of depth levels and the identified depth levels.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the identified depth levels are contiguous.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits the selection of the number of depth levels to be displayed.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits the selection of the number of depth levels to be displayed to a maximum number of depth levels.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits the selection of the number of depth levels to be displayed to a maximum threshold less than a maximum number of depth levels.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the maximum number is based on a type of the data visualization.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits selection of the rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits selection of leaf nodes of the hierarchical dataset from being displayed in the second data visualization as the rendered leaf nodes.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits selection of the rendered root node to be displayed in the second data visualization.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits selection of a root node of the hierarchical dataset from being displayed in the second data visualization as the rendered root node.

11. The method of claim 1. wherein the user interface is a double-ended slider bar, a first end of the slider bar selecting the rendered root node and a second end of the slider bar selecting the rendered leaf nodes.

20. The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface limits selection of a root node of the hierarchical dataset from being displayed in the second data visualization as the rendered root node.

12. A computer program product stored on a computer-readable medium for representing a plurality of data values of a hierarchical dataset as graphical elements in a configurable data visualization, the computer program product comprising:

code for displaying a first data visualization and a user interface in a data visualization display page, the first data visualization based on a default configuration of hierarchical depth levels of the dataset;

code for receiving through the user interface a selection of a rendered root node to be displayed in a second data visualization and a selection of rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization;

code for determining a number of depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes;

code for identifying which of the depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes; and

code for rendering the second data visualization based on the determined number of depth levels and the identified depth levels.

13. The computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the user interface limits the selection of the number of depth levels to be displayed.

14. The computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the user interface limits selection of the rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization.

15. The computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the user interface limits selection of leaf nodes of the hierarchical dataset from being displayed in the second data visualization as the rendered leaf nodes.

16. The computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the user interface limits selection of a root node of the hierarchical dataset from being displayed in the second data visualization as the rendered root node.

17. A system for representing a plurality of data values of a hierarchical dataset as graphical elements in a configurable data visualization, the system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory configured to store a plurality of code modules which when executed by the processor cause the processor to;

display a first data visualization and a user interface in a data visualization display page, the first data visualization based on a default configuration of hierarchical depth levels of the dataset;

receive through the user interface a selection of a rendered root node to be displayed in a second data visualization and a selection of rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization;

determine a number of depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes;

identify which of the depth levels to display based on the selection of the rendered root node and the selection of the rendered leaf nodes; and

render the second data visualization based on the determined number of depth levels and the identified depth levels.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the user interface limits the selection of the number of depth levels to be displayed.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the user interface limits selection of the rendered leaf nodes to be displayed in the second data visualization.
