First Claim
1. A method for presenting relationships between data items in a knowledge model database, comprising:
- integrating a plurality of data items into a plurality of entity tables in the knowledge model database, the plurality of data items extracted from a plurality of data sources, including a first data source and a second data source;
determining relationships between the plurality of data items in the knowledge model database, wherein the relationships include;
a direct relationship between first and second data items extracted from the first data source and integrated in different entity tables in the knowledge model database,a field-to-text relationship between a third data item extracted from a third data source and a fourth data item included in a literature table in the knowledge model database, wherein the literature table includes data items extracted from a fourth data source, the fourth data source being a first textual data source that includes the third data item,a transitive relationship between data items extracted from different data sources, wherein the transitive relationship is based on a plurality of direct relationships,a proximity relationship between data items extracted from a fifth data source, wherein the proximity relationship is defined, at least in part, by a proximity between the data items within the fifth data source;
displaying, concurrently, a plurality of panels on a display, including;
an active panel displaying a selected data item, the selected data item selected from among the plurality of data items,a plurality of entity panels displaying data items related to the selected data item; and
displaying relationship indicia on the display indicative of relationship types between the selected data item and the displayed data items, the relationship indicia including direct relationship indicia, field-to-text relationship indicia, transitive relationship indicia, and proximity relationship indicia.

Abstract
A system including a knowledge model is provided. The system includes an interface for presenting a relationship between two entities of a knowledge model. The interface includes a method that accepts a first input representative of a selection of a first interface item, the first interface item associated with an entity of the knowledge model. The method also includes presenting, in response to the acceptance, a second interface item, the second interface item associated with a second entity of the knowledge model, wherein the second entity has a relationship with the selected entity and the relationship has a relationship type selected from the group consisting of a direct relationship type or a derived relationship type. Finally, the method also includes presenting a relationship indicia representative of the relationship between the first entity and the second entity.
