Abstract

A system for generating embedded expressions configured to generate a result. The system includes an embedded expression generation engine configured to generate a root expression, including at least one parameter. The parameter includes an assigned embedded expression configured to generate a result based on one or more input parameters. The system further includes an embedded expression user interface configured to display the root expression and associated parameters and embedded expressions and provide expression generation tools allowing the user to modify the root expression.

Claims

1. A system for generating embedded expressions configured to generate a result, comprising:

an embedded expression generation engine configured to generate a root expression, including at least one parameter, the parameter having an assigned embedded expression configured to generate a result based on one or more input parameters; and

an embedded expression user interface configured to display the root expression and associated parameters and embedded expressions and provide expression generation tools allowing the user to modify the root expression.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface is configured to provide a visual indicia indicating whether the parameter is complete.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the embedded expression generation engine is configured to require that the assigned embedded expression is associated with one or more input parameters.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the embedded expression generation engine is configured to allow iterative assignment of embedded expressions and parameters to generate a hierarchical expression structure.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface is configured to display a listing of embedded expressions that can be assigned to at least one parameter based on a selection by a user.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the listing of embedded expressions is determined based on the root expression associated with the parameter.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the user interface is configured to display current values associated with parameters.

8. A method for generating embedded expressions configured to generate a result, comprising:

receiving a selection of a root expression, the root expression including at least one parameter;

designating the at least one parameter as a child node and the expression as a parent node to generate a hierarchical structure;

for each parameter,

receiving a selection indicating whether an embedded expression is to be assigned to the parameter, each embedded expression including at least one parameter; and

displaying the hierarchical structure in a user interface.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the user interface is configured to provide a visual indicia indicating whether the parameter is complete.

10. The method of claim 8, further including displaying a listing of embedded expressions that can be assigned to at least one parameter based on a selection by a user.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the listing of embedded expressions is determined based on the expression that is the parent nod for the parameter.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the user interface is configured to display current values associated with parameters.

13. A system for generating embedded expressions configured to generate a result, comprising:

a memory queue configured to receive and store a listing of data elements, each data element including a plurality of data element fields and representing a good for sale in a retail environment; and

an embedded expression generation engine configured to generate a root expression, including at least one parameter, the parameter having an assigned embedded expression configured to generate information related to the good for sale in a retail environment based on one or more input parameters; and

an embedded expression user interface configured to display the root expression and associated parameters and embedded expressions and provide expression generation tools allowing the user to modify the root expression.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the user interface is configured to provide a visual indicia indicating whether the parameter is complete.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the embedded expression generation engine is configured to require that the assigned embedded expression is associated with one or more input parameters.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the embedded expression generation engine is configured to allow iterative assignment of embedded expressions and parameters to generate a hierarchical expression structure.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the user interface is configured to display a listing of embedded expressions that can be assigned to at least one parameter based on a selection by a user.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the listing of embedded expressions is determined based on the root expression associated with the parameter.

19. The system of claim 13, wherein the user interface is configured to display current values associated with parameters.
