Abstract

A boxing device may include a substrate, at least one impact sensor carried by the substrate for detecting impacts from the at least one user, a user input device for receiving personal characteristic data for the at least one user, and a controller coupled to the impact sensor and the user input device. The controller may be for determining performance data based upon detected impacts, and weighting the performance data based upon the personal characteristic of the at least one user.

Claims

1. A boxing device comprising:

a substrate;

at least one impact sensor carried by said substrate for detecting impacts from the at least one user;

a user input device for receiving personal characteristic data for the at least one user, the personal characteristic data comprising at least one of age data and weight data; and

a controller coupled to said impact sensor and said user input device for determining performance data based upon detected impacts, and weighting the performance data based upon the personal characteristic data of the at least one user.

2. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein the at least one user comprises a plurality thereof;

wherein said at least one impact sensor comprises at least one respective impact sensor for each user; and

wherein said controller weights individual user performance data based upon respective personal characteristics of the users.

3. The boxing device of claim 2 wherein the at least one respective impact sensor comprises a respective set of impact sensors for each user.

6. The boxing device of claim 1 further comprising at least one visual strike indicator carried by said substrate and coupled to said controller;

and wherein said controller further causes said at least one visual strike indicator to provide a visual indication for queuing a user to strike said at least one impact sensor.

7. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein said substrate comprises a cover removably positioned on a punching bag.

8. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein said substrate comprises a punching bag.

9. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein the performance data is based upon a number of calories expended by the at least one user.

10. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein the performance data is based upon a number of impacts to said at least one impact sensor.

11. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein said at least one impact sensor measures an impact force level;

and wherein the performance data is based upon the measured impact force level.

12. The boxing device of claim 1 further comprising an audio output device coupled to said controller;

and wherein said controller provides audible performance data via said audio output device.

13. The boxing device of claim 1 further comprising a visual display coupled to said controller;

and wherein said controller provides visual performance data via said visual display.

14. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein said at least one impact sensor is positioned on said substrate for receiving punches from the at least one user.

15. The boxing device of claim 1 wherein said at least one impact sensor is positioned on said substrate for receiving kicks from the at least one user.

16. A multi-user boxing device comprising:

at least one substrate;

a plurality of sets of impact sensors carried by said at least one substrate, each set of impact sensors for detecting impacts from a respective one of a plurality of users;

a respective visual strike indicator carried by said at least one substrate for each of said impact sensors;

a user input device for receiving personal characteristic data for the plurality of users, the personal characteristic data comprising at least one of age data and weight data; and

a controller coupled to said impact sensors, said user input device, and said visual strike indicators for

causing said visual strike indicators to provide a visual indication for queuing the users user to strike respective impact sensors, and

determining performance data based upon detected impacts, and weighting individual user performance data based upon respective personal characteristic data of the users.

19. A method for using a boxing device comprising a substrate and at least one impact sensor carried by the substrate for detecting impacts from at least one user, the method comprising:

receiving personal characteristic data for the at least one user, the personal characteristic data comprising at least one of age data and weight data;

determining performance data based upon detected impacts to the at least one impact sensor; and

weighting the performance data based upon the personal characteristic data of the at least one user.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein the at least one user comprises a plurality thereof;

wherein the at least one impact sensor comprises at least one respective impact sensor for each user; and

wherein weighting comprises weighting individual user performance data based upon respective personal characteristics of the users.

23. The method of claim 19 wherein the exercise device further comprises at least one visual strike indicator carried by the substrate;

and further comprising causing the at least one visual strike indicator to provide a visual indication for queuing a user to strike the at least one impact sensor.

24. A boxing device comprising:

a substrate;

at least one impact sensor carried by said substrate for detecting impacts from the at least one user;

a user input device for receiving personal characteristic data for the at least one user, the personal characteristic data comprising age data; and

a controller coupled to said impact sensor and said user input device for determining performance data based upon detected impacts, and weighting the performance data based upon the personal characteristic data of the at least one user.

25. A boxing device comprising:

a substrate;

at least one impact sensor carried by said substrate for detecting impacts from the at least one user;

a user input device for receiving personal characteristic data for the at least one user, the personal characteristic data comprising weight data; and

a controller coupled to said impact sensor and said user input device for determining performance data based upon detected impacts, and weighting the performance data based upon the personal characteristic data of the at least one user.
