Abstract

The carton of this invention is capable of carrying the plurality of containers stacked upon their ends in two tiers with a unique dispenser that permits the dispensing of containers on their sides. The dispenser is formed in a top side wall and extends into the end wall with most of the end wall being torn open but leaving a portion near the bottom side wall to prevent the bottom layer of containers from rolling out. Angled projections in the dispensing end of the carton near the top panel and bottom panel prevent the top layer of containers from rolling out. A divider may be inserted between the two tiers of containers to facilitate loading the carton and preventing the containers from accidentally rolling out when the dispenser is open.

Claims

1. A package comprising:

a carton including six sides and enclosing a plurality of containers;

the carton comprising;

a first end and a second end;

the first end being an exiting end capable of permitting the containers to exit the carton one at a time;

the six sides including a first side connected to a second side along a first fold line, the first side connected to a third side along a second fold line, and a fourth side opposite the first side;

a first side flap connected to the first side along a first transverse fold line, a second side flap connected to the second side along the first transverse fold line, a third side flap connected to the third side along the first transverse fold line, and a fourth side flap connected to the fourth side along the first transverse fold line;

a tear line forming a dispensing flap at the first end;

the tear line extending at least partially along and collinear with the first transverse fold line and into at least the first side and the first end;

wherein all the containers are retained in the carton when the dispensing flap is separated from the carton along the tear line.

2. The carton of claim 1, wherein a finger flap assists removal of the dispensing flap.

3. The carton of claim 2, wherein the finger flap is disposed in the first side.

4. The carton of claim 1 wherein the dispensing flap includes portions of the first side flap, second side flap, and third side flap.

5. The carton of claim 1 wherein the tear line extends between the third side and third side flap along and collinear with the first transverse fold line.

6. The carton of claim 5 wherein the tear line extends a first distance along the first transverse fold line between the third side and the third side flap.

7. The carton of claim 6 wherein, after extending the first distance, the tear line extends into the third side flap in a direction away from the first transverse fold line.

8. The carton of claim 7 wherein the direction away is at an angle to a first point and turns at an angle to continue in a manner substantially parallel to the first side.

9. The carton of claim 8 wherein the tear line extends a second distance between the second side and second side flap along the first transverse fold line.

10. The carton of claim 9 wherein, after extending the second distance, the tear line extends into the second side flap in a direction away from the first transverse fold line.

11. The carton of claim 10 wherein the direction away is at an angle to a first point and turns at an angle to continue in a manner substantially parallel to the first side.

12. The carton of claim 10 wherein the first distance and the second distance are equal.

13. The carton of claim 1 wherein the tear line extends a distance between the second side and second side flap along the first transverse fold line.

14. The carton of claim 13 wherein, after extending the distance, the tear line extends into the second side flap in a direction away from the first transverse fold line.

15. The carton of claim 14 wherein the direction away is at an angle to a first point and turns at an angle to continue in a manner substantially parallel to the first side.

16. The carton of claim 1 wherein each container has an axis and wherein the axes of said cylindrical containers are arranged parallel the first side when placed in the carton.
