Abstract

Methodologies and mechanisms are provided that enable the monitoring of communication dialogs or sessions between a plurality of users or a user and a content service and a determination of content to be added to current and/or future messages sent in the communication dialog(s) or session(s) based on content of one or more previously sent messages.

In embodiments of the invention the message and previous message comprising the dialogue(s) or session(s) are transmitted between a first party and a second party and the messages are intercepted en route for a respective party.

Claims

1. A method of selecting information content for transmission in connection with a message, the method comprising:

selecting at least one previous message to the message;

identifying at least one keyword in the at least one previous message; and

selecting information content for transmission in connection with the message based on the at least one keyword.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising identifying a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one previous message is sent by a receiver of the message.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent to a sender of the message.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent by a sender of the message.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one previous message is a message received by a receiver of the message.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the information content is added to the message.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the information content is transmitted as a separate message.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a second mobile terminal.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a content service provider.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the message is sent from a content service provider to a first mobile terminal.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a plurality of second mobile terminals.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising appending the selected information content to the message prior to transmitting the information content to a second mobile terminal wherein the transmission of the information content to the second mobile terminal occurs as part of delivery of the message to the second mobile terminal.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one message is a Short Messaging Service message.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one message is a Multi-Media Service message.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the selected information content and the message to an intended recipient.

17. The method of claim 2, wherein the identifying of the communication dialog is based on a time period occurring between the at least one previous message and the message.

18. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating and storing call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising identifying a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the identifying of the communication dialog is based on an analysis of the call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

21. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the at least one previous message and at least one keyword identified in the message.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the message is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

23. The method of claim 2, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message is also based on at least one keyword of the message.

24. The method of claim 2, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message is based on keywords identified in a plurality of messages included in the communication dialog.

25. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

26. The method of claim 1, wherein information content includes at least one of data, text, pictures, audio, video, links to web-sites, location information, telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, HyperText Markup Language data, eXtensible Markup Language data, eXtensible HyperText Markup Language or downloadable files.

27. The method of claim 1, wherein the information content is advertising content.

28. A system for selecting information content for transmission in connection with a message, the system comprising:

an information management system coupled to at least one communication network; and

an interface configured to receive information content and data indicating distribution of information content via at least one message,

wherein the information management system is configured to select at least one previous message to the message, identify at least one keyword in at least one previous message, and select information content for transmission in connection with the message based on the at least one keyword.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein the information management system is further configured to identify a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

30. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one previous message is sent by a receiver of the message.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent to a sender of the message.

32. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent by a sender of the message.

33. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one previous message is a message received by a receiver of the message.

34. The system of claim 28, wherein the information content is added to the message.

35. The system of claim 28, wherein the information content is transmitted as a separate message.

36. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a second mobile terminal.

37. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a content service provider.

38. The system of claim 28, wherein the message is sent from a content service provider to a first mobile terminal.

39. The system of claim 28, wherein the message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a plurality of second mobile terminals.

40. The system of claim 28, wherein the information management system is further configured to append the selected information content to the message prior to transmitting the information content to a second mobile terminal wherein the transmission of the information content to the second mobile terminal occurs as part of delivery of the message to the second mobile terminal.

41. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one message is a Short Messaging Service message.

42. The system of claim 28, wherein the at least one message is a Multi-Media Service message.

43. The system of claim 28, wherein the information management system is further configured to transmit the selected information content and the message to an intended recipient.

44. The system of claim 29, wherein the identification of the communication dialog is based on a time period occurring between the at least one previous message and the message.

45. The system of claim 28, wherein the information management system is further configured to access call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

46. The system of claim 45, wherein the information management system is further configured to identify a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

47. The system of claim 46, wherein the identification of the communication dialog is based on an analysis of the call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

48. The system of claim 28, wherein the information management system is further configured to select information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the at least one previous message and at least one keyword identified in the message.

49. The system of claim 48, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the message is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

50. The system of claim 29, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message is also based on at least one keyword of the message.

51. The system of claim 29, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message is based on keywords identified in a plurality of messages included in the communication dialog.

52. The system of claim 28, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

The system of claim 28, wherein information content includes at least one of data, text, pictures, audio, video, links to web-sites, location information, telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, HyperText Markup Language data, eXtensible Markup Language data, eXtensible HyperText Markup Language or downloadable files.

54. The system of claim 28, wherein the information content is advertising content.

85. The system of claim 30, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent to a sender of the message.

55. An article of manufacture for selecting information content for transmission in connection with a message, the article of manufacture comprising a machine readable medium containing one or more programs which when executed implement the steps of:

selecting at least one previous message to the message;

identifying at least one keyword in the at least one previous message; and

selecting information content for transmission in connection with the message based on the at least one keyword.

56. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the steps further comprise identifying a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

57. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one previous message is sent by a receiver of the message.

58. The article of manufacture of claim 57, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent to a sender of the message.

59. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent by a sender of the message.

60. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one previous message is a message received by a receiver of the message.

61. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the information content is added to the message.

62. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the information content is transmitted as a separate message.

63. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a second mobile terminal.

66. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a plurality of second mobile terminals.

The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the steps further comprise appending the selected information content to the message prior to transmitting the information content to a second mobile terminal wherein the transmission of the information content to the second mobile terminal occurs as part of delivery of the message to the second mobile terminal.

68. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one message is a Short Messaging Service message.

69. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the at least one message is a Multi-Media Service message.

70. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the steps further comprise transmitting the selected information content and the message to an intended recipient.

71. The article of manufacture of claim 56, wherein the identifying of the communication dialog is based on a time period occurring between the at least one previous message and the message.

72. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the steps further comprise generating and storing call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

73. The article of manufacture of claim 72, wherein the steps further comprise identifying a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

74. The article of manufacture of claim 73, wherein the identifying of the communication dialog is based on an analysis of the call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

75. The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the steps further comprise selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the at least one previous message and at least one keyword identified in the message.

The article of manufacture of claim 75, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the message is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

77. The article of manufacture of claim 56, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message is also based on at least one keyword of the message.

78. The article of manufacture of claim 56, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message is based on keywords identified in a plurality of messages included in the communication dialog.

The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein the selecting information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

The article of manufacture of claim 55, wherein information content includes at least one of data, text, pictures, audio, video, links to web-sites, location information, telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, HyperText Markup Language data, eXtensible Markup Language data, eXtensible HyperText Markup Language or downloadable files.

An information management system for selecting information content for transmission in connection with a message, the information management system being configured to select at least one previous message to the message, identify at least one keyword in at least one previous message, and select information content for transmission in connection with the message based on the at least one keyword.

83. The information management system of claim 82, further configured to identify a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

84. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one previous message is sent by a receiver of the message.

86. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one previous message is a message sent by a sender of the message.

87. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one previous message is a message received by a receiver of the message.

88. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the information content is added to the message.

89. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the information content is transmitted as a separate message.

90. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a second mobile terminal.

91. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one previous message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a content service provider.

92. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the message is sent from a content service provider to a first mobile terminal.

93. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the message is sent from a first mobile terminal to a plurality of second mobile terminals.

The information management system of claim 82, further configured to append the selected information content to the message prior to transmitting the information content to a second mobile terminal wherein the transmission of the information content to the second mobile terminal occurs as part of delivery of the message to the second mobile terminal.

95. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one message is a Short Messaging Service message.

96. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the at least one message is a Multi-Media Service message.

97. The information management system of claim 82, further configured to transmit the selected information content and the message to an intended recipient.

98. The information management system of claim 83, wherein the identification of the communication dialog is based on a time period occurring between the at least one previous message and the message.

99. The information management system of claim 82, further configured to access call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

100. The information management system of claim 99, further configured to identify a communication dialog to which the message and the at least one previous message belong.

101. The information management system of claim 100, wherein the identification of the communication dialog is based on an analysis of the call detail records for the at least one previous message and the message.

102. The information management system of claim 83, further configured to select information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the at least one previous message and at least one keyword identified in the message.

The information management system of claim 101, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword of the message is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

104. The information management system of claim 83, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message is also based on at least one keyword of the message.

105. The information management system of claim 83, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message is based on keywords identified in a plurality of messages included in the communication dialog.

The information management system of claim 82, wherein the selection of information content for transmission with the message based on the at least one keyword is based on a plurality of rules indicating probabilistic assumptions regarding subject matter of the message based on the presence of one or more keywords.

The information management system of claim 82, wherein information content includes at least one of data, text, pictures, audio, video, links to web-sites, location information, telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, HyperText Markup Language data, eXtensible Markup Language data, eXensible HyperText Markup Language or downloadable files.

108. The information management system of claim 82, wherein the information content is advertising content.

109. An information management system for selecting information content for transmission in connection with a message, comprising:

means for selecting at least one previous message to the message,

means for identifying at least one keyword in at least one previous message, and

means for selecting information content for transmission in connection with the message based on the at least one keyword.
