Abstract

Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method of providing patient information. The method includes requesting patient data, supplying the patient data using a mobile electronic device, storing the patient data to a memory associated with the mobile electronic device, and communicating the patient data to a remote data server.

Claims

1. A method of providing patient information, the method including:

requesting patient data;

supplying said patient data using a mobile electronic device;

storing said patient data to a memory associated with said mobile electronic device; and

communicating said patient data to a remote data server.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said patient data includes at least one of a medication history, an allergy, a medical problem, a family medical history, an insurance provider, an employer, a social security number, contact information, and demographic information.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said remote data server is associated with a healthcare information system.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of said patient data is selectively withheld by a user of said mobile electronic device from being communicated to said remote data server.

5. The method of claim 1, further including:

displaying said patient data, wherein said patient data is selectively edited by a user of said mobile electronic device.

6. The method of claim 1, further including:

communicating a patient information form to said mobile electronic device, wherein said patient information form includes at least one patient data field.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said patient data is encrypted.

8. The method of claim 1, further including:

authenticating a user of said mobile electronic device based at least in part on an authenticator.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein said authenticator includes at least one of a password, a pass phrase, a personal identification number, a security token, a security card, and a biometric identifier.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein said biometric identifier includes at least one of a fingerprint, a retinal pattern, an infrared vein pattern, a signature, a voice, a face, a bio-electric signal, and a DNA sequence.

11. The method of claim 1, further including:

detecting a proximity of said mobile electronic device using at least one of a GPS signal, an RFID tag, a Wi-Fi network, a Bluetooth network, and an infrared signal.

12. A system for providing patient information, the system including:

a user interface adapted to receive patient data;

a memory adapted to store said patient data;

a processor adapted to process said patient data, wherein said processor is associated with a mobile communication device; and

a communication component adapted to communicate said patient data to a remote data server.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein said patient data includes at least one of a medication history, an allergy, a medical problem, a family medical history, an insurance provider, an employer, a social security number, contact information, and demographic information.

14. The system of claim 12, further including:

a display component adapted to display said patient data.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein said patient data is selectively edited by a user of said mobile communication device.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein said mobile communication device is adapted to receive a patient information form.

17. The system of claim 12, wherein said patient data is encrypted.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein a user of said mobile communication device is authenticated based at least in part on an authenticator, wherein said authenticator includes at least one of a password, a pass phrase, a personal identification number, a security token, a security card, and a biometric identifier.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein said biometric identifier includes at least one of a fingerprint, a retinal pattern, an infrared vein pattern, a signature, a voice, a face, a bio-electric signal, and a DNA sequence.

20. A computer-readable medium including a set of instructions for execution on a computer, the set of instructions including:

a request routine configured to request patient data;

a supply routine configured to supply said patient data using a mobile electronic device; and

a communication routine configured to communicate said patient data to a remote data server.
