Abstract

A mobile computing device includes a processor, a display coupled to the processor, a memory coupled to the processor and configured to store user-specific data, and a location-determining circuit configured to determine the location of the portable electronic device. The processor is configured to provide advertisement data on the display based upon the location of the portable electronic device and the user-specific data.

Claims

1. A mobile computing device, comprising:

a processor;

a display coupled to the processor;

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to store user-specific data; and

a location-determining circuit configured to determine the location of the portable electronic device;

wherein the processor is configured to provide advertisement data on the display based upon the location of the mobile computing device and the user-specific data.

2. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the user-specific data includes data associated with at least one of an electronic mail application, a messaging application, an electronic calendar application, and an electronic contacts application.

3. The mobile computing device of claim 2, wherein the user-specific data comprises the content of an email message.

4. The mobile computing device of claim 2, wherein the user-specific data comprises the content of an electronic calendar appointment.

5. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the user-specific data includes a telephone number for a telephone call made using the mobile computing device and the processor is configured to determine an address based on the telephone number;

and

wherein the processor is configured to provide the advertisement data on the display based further upon the address.

6. The mobile computing device of claim 5, wherein the processor is configured to determine a driving route between the location of the portable electronic device and the address and provide the advertisement data on the display based further upon the driving route.

7. The mobile computing device of claim 1, wherein the advertisement data comprises an electronic coupon.

8. The mobile computing device of claim 1, further comprising:

a housing configured to be held in the hand of a user.

9. A method of providing advertisement data on a mobile computing device, comprising:

accessing user-specific data regarding a user of a mobile computing device;

determining the location of the mobile computing device; and

providing advertisement data to the mobile computing device based upon the user-specific data and the location of the mobile computing device.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the user-specific data includes data associated with at least one of an electronic mail application, a messaging application, an electronic calendar application, and an electronic contacts application.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the user-specific data comprises the content of an email message.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving the advertisement data from a remote source.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

determining a telephone number for a wireless telephone call placed using the mobile computing device; and

determining an address based on the telephone number;

wherein the advertisement data is provided on the display and wherein the user-specific data comprises the address.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

determining a driving route between the location of the mobile computing device and the address; and

providing the advertisement data on the display based further upon the driving route.

15. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

providing an audible sound associated with the advertisement data using the mobile computing device.

16. The method of claim 9, wherein the mobile computing device comprises a housing configured to be held in the hand of a user of the mobile computing device.

17. A mobile computing device, comprising:

a processor;

a display coupled to the processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to store electronic appointment data comprising location data and a future time for an appointment;

wherein the processor is configured to provide advertisement data on the display based upon the location data and the future time for the appointment.

18. The mobile computing device of claim 17, wherein the location data comprises an address representing a geographic location.

19. The mobile computing device of claim 18, wherein the advertisement data comprises an advertisement for a destination located within a predetermined distance from the geographic location.

20. The mobile computing device of claim 17, wherein the processor is configured to provide the advertisement data prior to the future time of the appointment.
