Abstract

A mobile terminal equipped with a mode setting key and a method of controlling the mobile terminal are provided. The method includes providing a mode setting key for choosing an operating mode for the mobile terminal; placing the mobile terminal in an operating mode chosen by the mode setting key when the mode setting key is manipulated; and placing the mobile terminal in a standby mode regardless of the chosen operating mode when the mobile terminal is booted. Therefore, it is possible to place a mobile terminal in any operating mode chosen by a mode setting key and to automatically place the mobile terminal in a standby mode immediately after being booted, regardless of the operating mode chosen by the mode setting key.

Claims

1. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

providing a mode setting key for choosing an operating mode for the mobile terminal;

placing the mobile terminal in an operating mode chosen by the mode setting key when the mode setting key is manipulated; and

placing the mobile terminal in a standby mode regardless of the chosen operating mode when the mobile terminal is booted.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the mode setting key is one of a three-way key and a jog dial that can be rotated by 360 degrees.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the chosen operating mode comprises a camera mode, a moving image mode and a play mode.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising performing an operation corresponding to an operating menu item chosen when the mobile terminal is placed in the standby mode.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising executing a predefined menu according to the chosen operating mode.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the predefined menu is set in response to a user command.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising setting an operating environment in response to a user command according to the chosen operating mode.

8. A mobile terminal comprising:

a mode setting key configured to choose an operating mode for the mobile terminal; and

a controller configured to place the mobile terminal in an operating mode chosen by the mode setting key when the mode setting key is manipulated, and to place the mobile terminal in a standby mode, regardless of the chosen operating mode, when the mobile terminal is booted.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the mode setting key is one of a three-way key and a jog dial that can be rotated by 360 degrees.

10. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the chosen operating mode comprises a camera mode, a moving image mode and a play mode.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the controller performs an operation corresponding to an operating menu item chosen when the mobile terminal is placed in the standby mode.

12. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the controller controls a predefined menu to be executed according to the chosen operating mode.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the controller sets the predefined menu in response to a user command.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the controller sets an operating environment in response to a user command according to the chosen operating mode.

15. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

providing a mode setting key for choosing an operating mode and generating an input signal corresponding to an operating mode chosen by the mode setting key;

choosing one of first and second subscriber authentication modules in response to the input signal; and

making or receiving a call according to subscriber information present in the chosen subscriber authentication module upon receiving a request for a call.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the mode setting key is one of a three-way key and a jog dial-type key which can be rotated by 360 degrees.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the first and second subscriber authentication modules are subscriber identity module (SIM) cards, user identity module (UIM) cards, or user subscriber identity module (USIM) cards.

18. The method of claim 15, further comprising executing a predefined menu in response to the input signal.

19. The method of claim 15, further comprising setting a predefined operating environment in response to a user command.

20. The method of claim 15, further comprising setting a flying mode in response to the input signal.

21. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

providing a mode setting key for choosing an operating mode;

generating an input signal corresponding to an operating mode chosen by the mode setting key; and

controlling a predetermined operation in response to the input signal.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the controlling comprises either executing a predefined menu or setting a predefined operating environment.

23. A mobile terminal comprising:

first and second subscriber authentication modules;

a mode setting key configured to generate an input signal corresponding to a chosen operating mode;

an interface unit configured to provide an interface for transmitting data to or receiving data from one of the first and second subscriber authentication modules; and

a controller configured to access the first and second subscriber authentication modules through the interface unit and thus to control a call to be made or received according to subscriber information present in whichever of the first and second subscriber authentication is accessed by the controller.

24. The mobile terminal of claim 23, wherein the mode setting key is one of a three-way key and a jog dial-type key which can be rotated by 360 degrees.

25. The mobile terminal of claim 23, wherein the first and second subscriber authentication modules are SIM cards, UIM cards, or USIM cards.

26. The mobile terminal of claim 23, further comprising a wireless communication unit configured to provide a communication interface for making or receiving a call through a mobile communication network upon the control of the controller.

27. A mobile terminal comprising:

a mobile setting key configured to choose an operating mode and to generate an input signal corresponding to a chosen operating mode; and

a controller configured to perform a predetermined operation in response to the input signal.

28. The mobile terminal of claim 27, wherein the controller controls a predefined menu to be executed in response to the input signal.

29. The mobile terminal of claim 28, wherein the predefined menu is a menu set in response to a user command.

30. The mobile terminal of claim 27, wherein the controller controls a flying mode to be set in response to the input signal.

31. The mobile terminal of claim 27, wherein the controller controls a predefined operating environment to be set in response to the input signal, the predefined operating environment being an operating environment set in response to a user command.
