Abstract

A device for closing an opening in tissue includes a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and at least one pin associated with a distal end the shaft. A flexible guidebody extends from the distal end of the shaft, while a foot associated with the device is movable with respect to the shaft through the pin connected to at least one slot of the foot. Another device for closing an opening in tissue includes a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. A plurality of feet are disposed proximate the distal end of the shaft, the plurality of feet being movable with respect to the shaft. The device further includes a flexible guidebody extending from the distal end of the shaft.

Claims

1. A device for closing an opening in tissue, the device comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, said shaft having at least one pin;

a foot having at least one slot, said at least one slot being connected to said at least one pin at said distal end of said shaft, said foot being movable with respect to said shaft; and

a flexible guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein said at least one slot is axially movable with respect to said at least one pin.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein said foot is rotationally movable about said at least one pin.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein said foot is moveable via motion of an actuation wire.

5. A device for closing an opening in tissue, the device comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a receptacle disposed between said proximal end and said distal end;

a foot slidingly received within said receptacle, said foot being movable with respect to said shaft; and

a flexible guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein said foot is axially movable within said receptacle.

7. The device of claim 5, further comprising needles slidably disposed within the shaft and needle receptacles formed in said foot, said needle receptacles being adapted to received said needles.

8. The device of claim 5, further comprising a guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft, said guidebody extending from said shaft at a fixed angle.

9. A device for closing an opening in tissue, the device comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end;

a foot on said distal end of said shaft, said foot being movable with respect to said shaft, said foot having at least one receptacle, said at least one receptacle having at least one slot oriented with respect to a surface of the at least one receptacle; and

a flexible guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein said at least one slot extends substantially tangentially to said surface of said at least one receptacle.

11. The device of claim 9, wherein said at least one slot extends laterally through said foot.

12. The device of claim 9, further comprising a movable flap disposed over said at least one slot.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein a portion of said movable flap is affixed along one side of said at least one slot and another portion of said movable flap flexing into said at least one receptacle to release a suture disposed within the slot.

14. A device for closing an opening in tissue, the device comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end;

a plurality of feet proximate said distal end of said shaft, said plurality of feet being movable with respect to said shaft; and

a flexible guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft.

15. The device of claim 14, wherein said plurality of feet are oriented about a longitudinal axis of said shaft.

16. The device of claim 14, wherein said plurality of feet are axially movable with respect to said shaft.

17. The device of claim 14, wherein said plurality of feet further comprise at least one cuff pocket.

18. The device of claim 14, wherein said plurality of feet further comprise at least one cam surface.

19. A device for closing an opening in a tissue, the device comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end;

a first foot on said distal end of said shaft, said first foot being movable with respect to said shaft;

a second foot on said distal end of said shaft, said second foot being movable with respect to said shaft; and

a flexible guidebody extending from said distal end of said shaft.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein first foot and said second foot are pivotally associated with said shaft.

21. The device of claim 19, wherein said first foot and said second foot are oriented opposite each other about said shaft.

22. The device of claim 19, wherein said second foot is configured to receive said first foot in a collapsed state.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein said second foot includes a first dimension that is larger than a second dimension of said first foot.

24. The device of claim 22, wherein said second foot includes an opening configured to receive said first foot.

25. The device of claim 24, wherein said opening further comprises a slot configured to receive said first foot.
