1. A method by which an end-user customizes behavior of a camera-equipped wireless communications device associated with that user, the customizing defining different user-desired behaviors that are associated with different visual stimuli, so that different behaviors are triggered when the user later presents different visual stimuli to the wireless communications device, the method comprising the acts:

  • using the camera associated with the wireless communications device, capturing a first image frame from a physical subject presented to the device, the physical subject being devoid of any visible machine-readable code;

    processing image information corresponding to the first image frame to derive first identifying data therefrom;

    storing, within a data structure, the derived first identifying data;

    assigning a behavior to be associated with the physical subject, and storing data relating to said behavior within said data structure in association with the first identifying data;

    at a later time, using the camera associated with the wireless communications device, capturing a second image frame from a physical subject presented to the device;

    processing image information corresponding to the second image frame to derive second identifying data therefrom;

    checking the data structure for stored first identifying data corresponding to the second identifying data;

    identifying a behavior associated with the corresponding first identifying data;

    initiating said behavior; and

    presenting an output from said behavior to a user of said device;

    wherein the user decides what different responses are provided to the user when different visual stimuli are presented to the wireless communications device.
