Abstract

In one or more implementations, a cropped image is defined within a boundary on an original image displayed on a display. The original image is distorted to give an appearance of a lens being applied to the original image displayed on the display, the appearance of the lens including a focal region and a base region. A graphical user interface (“GUI”) is displayed on the display for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

defining a cropped image within a boundary on an original image displayed on a display;

distorting the original image to give an appearance of a lens being applied to the original image displayed on the display, the appearance of the lens including a focal region and a base region; and

displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) on the display for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the focal region has a magnification which varies across the base region to provide a continuous transition from the focal region to the original image.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the focal region has a size and a shape and further comprising receiving one or more signals for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, or a magnification of the focal region.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein one or more signals are received through the GUI to define the boundary.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the GUI is configured to adjust at least one of the size, the shape, or the magnification of the focal region.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the GUI is configured through use of one or more icons.

7. The method of claim 5 wherein the size and the shape are adjustable using at least one handle icon positioned on a perimeter of the focal region.

8. The method of claim 5 wherein the magnification is adjustable using a slide bar icon.

9. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the base region has a size and a shape and further comprising receiving one or more signals through the GUI to adjust at least one of the size or the shape of the base region; and

the GUI has one or more handle icons positioned on a perimeter of the base region to adjust at least one of the size or the shape of the base region.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting a magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size or a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size or a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the boundary;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or

a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

11. The method of claim 1 and further receiving one or more signals that define the boundary from a cursor control input device.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the boundary is a polygon.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the original image has one or more layers.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the boundary has a predetermined selection of the layers.

15. The method of claim 13 wherein the cropped image has a predetermined selection of the layers.

16. A method comprising:

defining a line segment on an original image displayed on a display to define points on the original image to be measured between;

distorting the original image in regions surrounding the points to give an appearance of a lens, the appearance of the lens including a focal region and a base region; and

displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over one or more of the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the focal region has a magnification which varies across the base region to provide a continuous transition from the focal region to the original image.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the focal region has a size and a shape and further comprising receiving one or more signals for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, or a magnification of the focal region.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein one or more signals are received through the GUI to define the line segment.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein the GUI has means for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, or the magnification of the focal region.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein at least some of the adjusting means are icons.

22. The method of claim 20 wherein the adjusting means for the size or the shape includes at least one handle icon positioned on a perimeter of the focal region.

23. The method of claim 20 wherein the adjusting means for the magnification is a slide bar icon.

24. The method of claim 17 wherein the base region has a size and a shape and further comprising receiving one or more signals through the GUI for adjusting at least one of the size or the shape of the base region, wherein the GUI has one or more handle icons positioned on a perimeter of the base region for adjusting at least one of the size and the shape of the base region.

25. The method of claim 16 wherein the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting a magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size or a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size or a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the line segment;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or

a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

26. The method of claim 16 and further comprising receiving one or more signals that define the line segment.

27. The method of claim 16 wherein the line segment is a straight line.

28. A method comprising:

receiving one or more signals to define a cropped image within a boundary defined by two or more points on an original image displayed on a display; and

distorting the original image in regions surrounding the two or more points to produce a distorted image by;

displacing the original image to give an appearance of a lens and

perspectively projecting the displacing onto a plane in a direction aligned with a viewpoint for the regions.

29. The method of claim 28 wherein the distorting is performed by displaying the boundary over the distorted original image on the display.

30. The method of claim 29 further comprising displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

31. The method of claim 30 wherein:

the appearance of the lens includes a focal region for one of the points at least partially surrounded by a base region, the lens having a magnification, the magnification being uniform in the focal region and varying in the base region such that the appearance of the lens is continuous from regions outside the appearance of the lens through the base region to the focal region; and

the GUI includes at least one of;

a slide bar icon for adjusting the magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the boundary;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

32. A method comprising:

receiving one or more signals for adjusting a line segment on an original image displayed on a display to define points on the original image for measuring between; and

distorting the original image in regions surrounding the points to produce a distorted image on the display by displacing the original image to give an appearance of a lens being applied to each of the regions and perspectively projecting the displacing onto a plane on the display in a direction aligned with a viewpoint for the regions.

33. The method of claim 32 wherein the distorting is performed by displaying the line segment over the distorted image on the display.

34. The method of claim 33 further comprising displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over one or more of the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

35. The method of claim 34 wherein:

the lens includes a focal region for one of the points at least partially surrounded by a base region, the lens having a magnification, the magnification being uniform in the focal region and varying in the base region such that the appearance of the lens is continuous from regions outside the appearance of the lens through the base region to the focal region; and

the GUI includes at least one of;

a slide bar icon for adjusting the magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the line segment;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

36. A system comprising:

a processor; and

memory configured to maintain;

a module executable on the processor for defining a cropped image within a boundary defined by two or more points on an original image;

a module executable on the processor for distorting the original image in regions surrounding the points to give an appearance of a lens including a focal region and a base region; and

a module executable on the processor for displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over one or more of the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

37. The system of claim 36 wherein the focal region has a magnification which varies across the base region to provide a continuous transition from the focal region to the original image.

38. The system of claim 37 wherein the focal region has a size and a shape and further comprising a module for receiving one or more signals for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, or a magnification of the focal region.

39. The system of claim 38 wherein one or more signals are received through the GUI to define the boundary.

40. The system of claim 39 wherein the GUI is configured to adjust at least one of the size, the shape, and the magnification of the focal region.

41. The system of claim 40 wherein the GUI is configured through use of one or more icons.

42. The system of claim 40 wherein the size or the shape are adjustable using at least one handle icon positioned on a perimeter of the focal region.

43. The system of claim 40 wherein magnification is adjustable using a slide bar icon.

44. The system of claim 37 wherein the base region has a size and a shape and further comprising a module to receive one or more signals through the GUI to adjust at least one of the size and the shape of the base region, wherein the GUI has one or more handle icons positioned on a perimeter of the base region to adjust at least one of the size and the shape of the base region.

45. The system of claim 36 wherein the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting a magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the boundary;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image; and

a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

46. The system of claim 36 and further comprising an input device coupled to the processor to generate one or more signals to define the boundary.

47. The system of claim 36 wherein the boundary is a polygon.

48. The system of claim 36 wherein the original image has one or more layers.

49. The system of claim 48 wherein the regions have a predetermined selection of the layers.

50. The system of claim 48 wherein the cropped image has a predetermined selection of the layers.

51. A system comprising:

a processor; and

memory configured to maintain one or more modules that are executable on the processor for;

defining a line segment on an original image to define points on the original image to be measured between;

distorting the original image in regions surrounding the points to give an appearance of a lens including a focal region and a base region; and

displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over one or more of the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

52. The system of claim 51 wherein the focal region has a magnification which varies across the base region to provide a continuous transition from the focal region to the original image.

53. The system of claim 52 wherein the focal region has a size and a shape and further comprising a module for receiving one or more signals for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, or a magnification of the focal region.

54. The system of claim 53 wherein one or more signals are received through the GUI to define the line segment.

55. The system of claim 54 wherein the GUI has means for adjusting at least one of the size, the shape, and the magnification of the focal region.

56. The system of claim 55 wherein at least some of the means are icons.

57. The system of claim 55 wherein the adjusting means for the size and the shape includes at least one handle icon positioned on a perimeter of the focal region.

58. The system of claim 55 wherein the adjusting means for the magnification is a slide bar icon.

59. The system of claim 55 wherein the base region has a size and a shape and further comprising a module for receiving one or more signals through the GUI for adjusting at least one of the size and the shape of the base region, wherein the GUI has one or more handle icons positioned on a perimeter of the base region for adjusting at least one of the size and the shape of the base region.

60. The system of claim 55 wherein the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting a magnification for the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the line segment;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

61. The system of claim 55 and further comprising an input device coupled to the processor for generating one or more signals to define the line segment.

62. The system of claim 55 wherein the line segment is a straight line.

63. A system comprising:

a processor; and

memory configured to maintain one or more modules that are executable on the processor for;

receiving one or more signals to define a cropped image within a boundary on an original image; and

,

distorting the original image in regions surrounding the points to produce a distorted image by displacing the original image to give an appearance of application of a lens and perspectively projecting the displacing onto a plane in a direction aligned with a viewpoint for the region.

64. The system of claim 63 wherein the distorting is to be performed by displaying the boundary over the distorted image on a display communicatively coupled to the processor.

65. The system of claim 64 wherein the modules are further executable on the processor for displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) over one or more of the regions for adjusting the appearance of the lens.

66. The system of claim 65 wherein the appearance of the lens includes a focal region at least partially surrounded by a base region, the appearance of the lens having a magnification, the magnification being uniform in the focal region and varying in the base region such that the appearance of the lens is continuous from regions outside the lens through the base region to the focal region, and the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting the magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the boundary;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.

67. A system comprising:

a processor; and

memory configured to maintain one or more modules that are executable on the processor for;

receiving one or more signals for adjusting a line segment on the original image to define points on the original image for measuring between;

distorting the original image in respective regions surrounding the points to produce a distorted image by displacing the original image to given an appearance of application of a lens and perspectively projecting the displacing onto a plane in a direction aligned with a viewpoint for the region

68. The system of claim 67 wherein the distorting is to be performed by displaying the line segment over the distorted image on a display communicatively coupled to the processor.

69. The system of claim 68 wherein the one or more modules are further executable for displaying a graphical user interface (“

GUI”

) for adjusting the lens.

70. The system of claim 69 wherein the appearance of the lens includes a focal region at least partially surrounded by a base region, the appearance of the lens having a magnification, the magnification being uniform in the focal region and varying in the base region such that the appearance of the lens is continuous from regions outside the appearance of the lens through the base region to the focal region, and the GUI includes at least one of:

a slide bar icon for adjusting the magnification for the appearance of the lens;

a slide bar icon for adjusting a degree of scooping for the appearance of the lens;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the focal region;

a bounding rectangle icon with at least one handle icon for adjusting a size and a shape for the base region;

a move icon for adjusting a location for the appearance of the lens on the line segment;

a pickup icon for adjusting a location for the base region within the original image;

or a fold icon for adjusting a location for the focal region relative to the base region.
