Abstract

Systems and methods of utilizing hyperlinks in connection with video services are disclosed. One such method includes receiving a video program having a start time. This method also includes receiving, before the start time, a media object associated with the video program. This method also includes storing the media object, and displaying the media object and the video program on a screen.

Claims

1. A method for utilizing hyperlinks in connection with video services, the method comprising:

receiving a video program having a start time;

receiving, before the start time, a media object associated with the video program;

storing the media object; and

displaying the media object and the video program on a screen

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the video program is associated via a hyperlink.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the media object and video program are received via a single tuner.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the video program is received via a transport stream and media object is received as private data in the transport stream.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving the media object at a predetermined time defined in relation to the start time of the video program.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving the media object at a predetermined time.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving additional media objects periodically at predefined intervals.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the storing further comprises:

storing the media object in association with a time reference.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

deleting the media object after an end time associated with the video program.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

deleting the media object after passage of an interval within the video program, the interval associated with the media object

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying further comprises:

displaying simultaneously without requiring user interaction.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying further comprises:

displaying the media object responsive to user interaction with a portion of the screen

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying further comprises:

displaying the media object responsive to user interaction with a portion of the screen

14. A method for utilizing hyperlinks in connection with video services, the method comprising:

receiving a video program having a start time;

receiving, starting at a delta time before the start time, a plurality of media objects associated with the video program, each media object associated with one of a plurality of time intervals defined relative to the delta time; and

storing each of the received media objects in association with one of a plurality of time references defined relative to the delta time.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the storing further comprises:

storing each of the media objects as a separate file in a common directory.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the storing further comprises:

storing each of the received media objects in one of a plurality of subdirectories based on the associated time interval.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the subdirectories are stored within a common directory.

18. A method for utilizing hyperlinks in connection with video services

receiving a video program having a start time;

receiving, starting at a delta time before the start time, a plurality of media objects associated with the video program, each media object effective during a time interval that is defined relative to the video program;

storing each of the received media objects in one of a plurality of subdirectories based on the time interval of the respective media object;

upon reaching the video program start time, retrieving media objects that are effective during the first time interval of the video program from a first one of the subdirectories; and

upon reaching each of the subsequent time intervals defined for the video program, retrieving media objects that are effective during the corresponding subsequent time interval from a corresponding one of the subdirectories.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the storing further comprises:

storing each of the media objects as a separate file in a common directory.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the subdirectories are stored within a common directory.
