Abstract

Vehicles and methods for providing a communication between a mobile unit and a vehicle are described. In one embodiment, a communication is received from a mobile unit, the communication is interfaced to a vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system, an audio-visual interface associated with the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system displays the communication; and a communication is transmitted to the mobile unit.

Claims

1. A method for providing a communication link between a mobile unit and a vehicle, the method comprising:

receiving a communication link from a mobile unit;

interfacing the communication link to a vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system;

displaying via an audio-visual interface associated with the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system the communication link; and

transmitting a communication to the mobile unit.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein interfacing the communication link comprises a user accepting the communication link.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication is voice and data.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein displaying the communication link comprises displaying a status.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication link uses Bluetooth wireless technology.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the communication link employs radio frequency (“

RF”

).

7. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication to the mobile unit comprises establishing a communication link with a remote unit.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising transmitting maintenance information to the remote unit.

9. The method of claim 7 further comprising receiving a control instruction from the remote unit.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication comprises the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system turning down the volume of the radio.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication comprises the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system stopping the radio.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication to the mobile unit comprises the mobile unit repeating the communication to a second mobile unit.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication to the mobile unit comprises sending a control instruction to the mobile unit to cancel a communication link between the mobile unit and a second mobile unit.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting the communication comprises uploading data from the mobile unit.

15. A method for providing a communication link between a cellular phone and a vehicle, the method comprising:

receiving a communication link from a cellular phone;

interfacing the communication link to a vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system;

displaying via an audio-visual interface associated with the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system the communication link; and

transmitting a communication to the cellular phone.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system establishing a communication link with a system administrator through the cellular phone.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising transmitting maintenance information via the communication link with the system administrator.

18. The method of claim 16 further comprising transmitting a control instruction from the system administrator.

19. The method of claim 15 wherein transmitting the communication comprises the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system turning down the volume of the radio.

20. The method of claim 15 wherein transmitting the communication comprises the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system stopping the radio.

21. The method of claim 15 wherein transmitting the communication to the cellular phone comprises the cellular phone repeating the communication to a second mobile unit.

22. The method of claim 15 wherein transmitting the communication to the cellular phone comprises sending a control instruction to the cellular phone to cancel a conversation with a second mobile unit.

23. The method of claim 15 wherein transmitting the communication comprises uploading data from the cellular phone.

24. A method for providing a communication link between a cellular phone and a vehicle, the method comprising:

receiving a communication link from a cellular phone;

interfacing the communication link to a vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system;

inputting via an audio-visual interface associated with the vehicle'"'"'s electromechanical system a communication; and

transmitting the communication to the cellular phone.

25. A method for providing a communication link between a cellular phone and a remote unit, the method comprising:

providing a communication link by a cellular phone;

receiving a request for access to the communication link by a remote unit;

connecting the remote unit to the communication link; and

repeating a communication received by the cellular phone to the remote unit.

26. The method of claim 25 wherein the remote unit comprises a laptop computer.

27. A vehicle comprising:

a transceiver for receiving a communication link from a cellular phone, the transceiver further for transmitting a communication to the cellular phone;

an electromechanical system associated with the transceiver; and

an audio-visual interface associated with the electromechanical system for displaying the communication link and for inputting the communication.

28. The vehicle of claim 27 wherein the transceiver employs Bluetooth.

29. A vehicle comprising:

a microprocessor;

a transceiver associated with the microprocessor, the transceiver receiving a communication link from a mobile unit;

a memory associated with the microprocessor, the memory storing a control instruction;

an electromechanical system associated with the microprocessor, the electromechanical system exerting the control instruction; and

an audio-visual interface associated with the electromechanical system, the audio-visual interface displaying the communication link.
