Abstract

Methods and systems of patient treatment are disclosed. The methods and systems include use of medical device informatics to modify and validate therapies and drugs used in those therapies. In certain embodiments, a medical device, such as a medical infusion pump, interfaces with a server to administer the patient treatments. In one aspect, a software development kit is disclosed. The kit includes medical device installation software containing computer-readable instructions allowing a user to define metadata related to one or more characteristics of a medical device. The kit also includes data package delivery software including computer-readable instructions configured to deliver a data package from a server to a medical device. The kit further includes server software containing computer-readable instructions for execution on a medical device server, the server software configured to control communication from the server to the medical device.

Claims

1. A kit comprising:

medical device installation software containing computer-readable instructions allowing a user to define metadata related to one or more characteristics of a medical device;

data package delivery software including computer-readable instructions configured to deliver a data package from a server to a medical device;

server software containing computer-readable instructions for execution on a medical device server, the server software configured to control communication from the server to the medical device.

2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the medical device is a medical infusion pump.

3. The kit of claim 1, further comprising user-readable documentation regarding use of one or more of the medical device installation software, the data package delivery software, or the server software.

4. The kit of claim 1, further comprising one or more message schema integrable into the medical device server or medical device, the message schema configured to provide communication between the medical device server and the medical device.

5. The kit of claim 4, wherein the message schema include a communication protocol and metadata.

6. The kit of claim 5, wherein the metadata is generated using the medical device installation software.

7. The kit of claim 1, wherein the data package includes:

information including data for changing the operation of the medical device, the information having a data structure;

a server-readable header including encrypted size information and lacking information regarding the contents of the data package; and

a vendor-defined header including data structure information and decryption information related to the information.

8. The kit of claim 1, wherein the medical device installation software contains computer-readable instructions executable on a medical device server, the computer readable instructions configured to allow a user to:

associate metadata with each of a plurality of medical devices, the metadata corresponding to at least one attribute common to the medical devices; and

store the metadata on a server, the server configured to communicate with each of the medical devices by using the metadata.

9. A kit for enabling communication between a medical device and a medical device server, the kit comprising:

medical device installation software containing computer-readable instructions allowing a user to define metadata related to one or more characteristics of a medical device, the medical device installation software associating the metadata with the one or more characteristics on the medical device and the medical device server;

data package delivery software, the data package delivery software including computer-readable instructions configured to deliver a data package from a server to a medical device, the data package containing computer-readable instructions configured to control operation of the medical device;

server software containing computer-readable instructions for execution on a medical device server, the server software configured to control communication from the server to the medical device.

10. The kit of claim 9, wherein the medical device is a medical infusion pump.

11. The kit of claim 9, further comprising one or more message schema integrable into the medical device server or medical device, the message schema configured to provide communication between the medical device server and the medical device.

12. The kit of claim 11, wherein the message schema include a communication protocol and metadata.

13. The kit of claim 12, wherein the metadata is generated using the medical device installation software.

14. The kit of claim 9, further comprising user-readable documentation regarding use of one or more of the medical device installation software, the data package delivery software, or the server software.
