Abstract

A data entry system includes a plurality of keys each of which has two or more symbols associated with each key and a means for receiving a second specific input from a user. A third correction key is provided, where a user enters a desired input by pressing one or more of the plurality of keys corresponding to the symbols required for the desired input and further provides a second specific input also relating to at least a portion of the desired input, such that the system produces a response to the desired input by predicting the desired input based on the symbols pressed by the user and based on the second specific input. If the produced response is different than the desired input, the user may press the correction key to scroll through additional less frequent responses from the system also matching the symbols pressed and the second specific input.

Claims

1. A data entry system using a number of different input signals provided by interacting with input means such as keys wherein:

a number of characters, including substantially all letters of alphabet of one language, are distributively assigned to four of said input signals such that at least two of said letters are ambiguously assigned to one of said four input signals,

said data entry system includes a database of words and uses a word predictive system such that in order to enter a word of said database the user provides input information in the form of the input signals corresponding to the characters, generally the letters, of said word through said four input signals, and wherein the system provides a word of the dictionary that corresponds to said input information, and

said letters of alphabet are distributively assigned to said four input signals such as to increase the accuracy of recognizing the user'"'"'s desired word by the system, based on the input information alone.

2. The data entry system according to claim 1, wherein the user provides additional input information such that the system recognizes precisely at least one of the characters of said word and proposes a word that corresponds to the input information.

3. The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein said additional input information comprises speech data indicative of one of the characters of said word.

4. The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein said additional input information comprises input signals resulting from pressing a key of a keyboard corresponding to a precise character of the desired word.

5. The data entry system according to claim 1, wherein the letters having ambiguously resembling speech are assigned to different input signals within said four input signals.

The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein said additional information includes information that corresponds to at least one character of the desired word thereby enabling the system to precisely recognize said at least one character, and wherein the system proposes a word that corresponds to all of the information corresponding to the desired word, provided by the user.

7. The data entry system according to claim 2, comprising correction/selection means operable for providing a predefined input signal to inform the system to propose another word based on all of the information provided by the user.

8. The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein priority values are assigned to at least some of the words of the dictionary, said priority values determine the order in which the words of the dictionary are proposed.

9. The data entry system according to claim 8 wherein said priority values are determined based on the frequency of use of said word.

10. The data entry system according to claim 2 wherein said input information is provided through said four keys and said additional input information is provided through the keys of one of least a PC keyboard or a telephone-type keypad.

11. The data entry system according to claim 1, wherein said interactions are provided on different zones on a touch sensitive surface, wherein each zone defines a key.

12. The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein said additional input information corresponds to any desired character of said word.

The data entry system according to claim 2, wherein said additional information corresponds to at least one of the characters of said word and wherein the system operates to associate said additional information with at least one of the characters of said word starting from the first character and continuing in a sequential manner.

14. The data entry system according to claim 10, wherein said first set of keys are divided into two groups;

a first group is located on one side of a corresponding electronic device and the second group is located on the opposite side of said device, and wherein the keys of the second set of keys are located on the screen of said electronic device.

15. A data entry system using a number of different input signals provided by interacting with input means such as keys wherein:

a number of characters including substantially all of the letters of the alphabet of one language are distributively assigned to at least some of said different input signals such that at least two of said letters are ambiguously assigned to at least one of said some input signals,

said data entry system includes a database of words and uses a word predictive system such that in order to enter a word of said database the user provides a first input information by providing the input signals corresponding to the characters of said word and wherein the system proposes a word of the dictionary that corresponds to said input signals, and wherein;

if said word proposed by the system is not the desired word, then the user provides additional input information such that the system recognizes precisely at least one of the characters of said word and proposes another word that corresponds to said first input information and said additional input information.

16. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein said additional input information is speaking at least one of the characters of said word.

17. The data entry system according to claim 15 wherein said additional input information comprises input signals resulted from pressing a key of a keyboard corresponding to a precise character of the desired word.

18. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein said at least some of said different input signals are four different input signals.

19. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein the ambiguous characters are distributed on said some input signals such as to increase the accuracy of recognizing the user'"'"'s desired word by the system, based on said input information alone.

20. The data entry system according to claim 18, wherein the ambiguous characters are distributed on said four input signals such as to increase the accuracy of recognizing the user'"'"'s desired word by the system, based on the said first input information alone.

21. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein letters having ambiguously resembling speech are assigned to different input signals within said some input signals.

The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein each additional information enables the system to precisely recognize at least an additional corresponding character of the desired word and the system proposes a word that corresponds to all of the information corresponding to the desired word, provided by the user.

The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein said additional information corresponds to at least one of the characters of said word and wherein the system operates to associate said additional information with one or more consecutive characters of said word starting from the first character.

24. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein priority values are assigned to at least some of the words of the dictionary, said priority values determine the order in which the words to the dictionary are proposed.

25. The data entry system according to claim 23 wherein said priority values are determined based on the frequency of use of said word.

26. The data entry system according to claim 18, wherein said input information is provided through said four keys and said additional input information is provided through the keys of one of least a PC keyboard or a telephone-type keypad.

27. The data entry system according to claim 15, wherein said interactions are provided on different zones on a touch sensitive surface, wherein each zone defines a key.

28. A data entry system comprising two sets of interactive input means such as keys, providing respectively a first and a second set of input signals wherein a number of characters including substantially all of the letters of the alphabet of one language, are distributively assigned to at least some of the input signals of the first set and wherein at least two of said letters are ambiguously assigned to at least one of the input signals of the first set, and wherein;

said data entry system uses the second set of input signals provided by interacting with input means such as keys wherein substantially all of the letters of the alphabet of said language are distributively assigned to at least some of said second set input signals and wherein;

said data entry system includes a database of words and uses a word predictive system such that in order to enter a word of said database the user provides a first input information by providing the input signals of the first set corresponding to the characters of said word and the system provides a word of the dictionary that corresponds to said input signals, and wherein;

if said word provided by the system is not the desired word, then the user provides additional input information through the second set of input signals such that the system recognizes precisely at least one of the characters of said word and proposes another word that corresponds to said first input information and said additional input information.

29. The data entry system according to claim 28 wherein said first set of input signals are provided through the keys of a first keypad and said second set of input signals are provided through the keys of one of at least a PC keyboard or a telephone-type keypad.

30. The data entry system according to claim 28, wherein said at least some of said input signals of the first set are four different input signals.

31. The data entry system according to claim 28, wherein said interactions are provided on different zones on a touch sensitive surface, wherein each zone defines a key.

32. The data entry system according to claim 28, wherein said additional input information corresponds to any desired character of said word.

33. The data entry system according to claim 28, wherein said additional information corresponds to at least one of the characters of said word and wherein the system operates to associate said additional information with at least one or more consecutive characters of said word starting from the first character.

34. The data entry system according to claim 28, wherein said first set of keys are divided into two groups;

a first group is located on one side of a corresponding electronic device and the second group is located on the opposite side of said device, and wherein the keys of the second set of keys are located on the screen of said electronic device.

35. The data entry system according to claim 34, wherein each of said groups of keys includes two of the keys having ambiguous letters.

36. The data entry system according to claim 34, wherein the screen is located between said first and second groups of keys.
