Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for selling one or more advertisements and displaying the one or more advertisements a fixed placement for a set duration of time on a web page within an Internet website in combination with displaying advertisements from the same advertiser in contextually relevant locations within the website.

Claims

1. A system for selecting and displaying advertisements over a network, the system comprising:

a database configured to store at least one advertisement from an advertiser; and

an advertisement selection application configured to;

receive a request for advertising from a user computer, wherein the request is generated by the user computer in accordance with instructions provided to the user computer by a content publisher upon the user computer accessing a website of the content publisher, wherein the website includes at least one web page; and

,

in response to the request, select at least one advertisement of an advertiser from the database for display in a fixed location within a page of the website and at least another advertisement of said advertiser from the database for display in a location within the website that is contextually relevant to the at least another advisement.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein the at least one advertisement includes a text portion and a graphics portion.

3. The system according to claim 2, wherein the at least another advertisement is a text advertisement.

4. The system according to claim 1, wherein the at least another advertisement is derived from a portion of the at least one advertisement.

5. The system according to claim 1, wherein the advertisement selection application is configured to track the number of times it receives a request for advertising from the user computer for the content publisher and in response to at least one request, subsequent to a first request, select the at least one advertisement for display in a different fixed location within the website.

6. The system according to claim 1, wherein the advertisement selection application is configured to:

track the number of times it provides the at least another advertisement; and

,

only provide the at least another advertisement a selected number of times.

7. The system according to claim 1, wherein the at least one advertisement includes a plurality of advertisements.

8. The system according to claim 1, wherein the at least another advertisement includes a plurality of advertisements for display in a plurality of respective locations within the website that are contextually relevant to the plurality of advertisements.

9. The system according to claim 1, wherein the location within the website that is contextually relevant to the at least another advertisement includes a plurality of locations.

10. The system according to claim 1, wherein the instructions comprise markup code provided to the user computer in response to the user computer submitting to the content publisher an HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) request or access to the page.

11. A system for responding to a request over a network for access to a pages the system comprising:

a content publisher configured to;

receive a request from a user computer for access to a page; and

in response to the request, transmit both content for the page and instructions to the user computer, wherein the instructions direct the user computer to request advertising from an advertisement selection system;

wherein the instructions include information about at least one location for a fixed placement advertisement from an advertiser; and

wherein the instructions further include information about at least one location for a contextually relevant advertisement from said advertiser.

12. The system according to claim 11, wherein the instructions further include a plurality of locations for said contextually relevant advertisement.

13. The system according to claim 11, wherein the instructions further include a plurality of locations for a plurality of contextually relevant advertisements from said advertiser.

14. The system according to claim 11, wherein the content for the page and the instructions form at least part of an HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) response.

15. A method for selecting and displaying advertisements within a website, wherein the website includes at least one web page, the method comprising:

storing a plurality of advertisements from an advertiser;

receiving a request for at least two of said plurality of advisements of said advertiser, and

in response to the request, selecting at least one of the plurality of stored advertisements of said advertiser for display within a fixed location on a page of the website and selecting at least another of the stored advertisements of said advertiser for display in a contextually relevant location within the website.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein at least one of the at least another of the stored advertisements is displayed on the same page as the fixed location.

17. The method according to claim 15, wherein the website includes a plurality of pages and the at least one of the plurality of stored advertisements for display within a fixed location and at least one of the at least another of the stored advertisements are displayed on different pages of the website.

18. The method according to claim 15 further comprising selecting a plurality of the stored advertisements from said advertiser for display within a fixed location on a page of the website.

19. The method according to claim 15 further comprising selecting a plurality of the stored advertisements from said advertiser for display in a plurality of respectively contextually relevant locations within the website.

20. The method according to claim 15 wherein said selecting at least another of the stored advertisements for display in a contextually relevant location within the website includes selecting said at least another of the stored advertisements for display in a plurality of contextually relevant locations within the website.

21. A system for selecting and displaying advertisements over a communications network, the system comprising:

a database configured to store a plurality of an advertiser'"'"'s advisements, the advertisements designed to be displayed on a content provider'"'"'s website, the website comprising at least a web page; and

,

advertisement selection means for receiving a request for advertising from a user computer and selecting at least one advertiser'"'"'s advertisement from the database for display in a fixed location within a page of the website and at least another of the advertiser'"'"'s advertisements from the database for display in a location within the website that is contextually relevant to the at least another of the advertiser'"'"'s advertisements.

22. A method of selling advertising for a website of a content provider over network comprising:

creating a package of advertisements including t least one fixed placement advertisement and at least one contextual advertisement;

wherein said fixed placement advertisement includes at least a location on said website available for purchase to display an advisement;

wherein said contextual advertisement includes a guarantee to display an advisement within said website at a location that is contextually relevant to the contextual advertisement; and

,

offering said package of advertisements for purchase via said network.

23. The method according to claim 22 wherein said package includes a plurality of fixed placement advertisements.

24. The method according to claim 22 wherein said package includes a plurality of contextual advertisements.

25. The method according to claim 22 wherein said package includes a predetermined duration of time to display said fixed placement advertisement and a predetermined number of displays of said contextual advertisement.
