Abstract

A communication apparatus, which allows a user to communicate via a network, carries out a switch off step (SOA) in response to a switch off command. In the switch off step (SOA), the communication apparatus allows the user to select (SM2, SM3) a detach message from a list of detach messages (DML). The communication apparatus conveys (SM6, SM7) a detach message identification (MID) to the network and, subsequently, switches off (SM8). The detach message identification (MID) represents the detach message that the user has selected. The network carries out a call handling step in which the network conveys the detach message to another communication apparatus from which a call emanates that is destined for the communication apparatus that is switched off.

Claims

1. A method of communicating via a network by means of a communication apparatus, the method comprising:

a switch off step, which the communication apparatus carries out in response to a switch off command, in which step the communication apparatus allows a user to select a detach message from a list of detach messages, and in which the communication apparatus conveys a detach message identification to the network and, subsequently, switches off, the detach message identification representing the detach message that the user has selected;

a call handling step in which the network conveys the detach message to another communication apparatus from which a call emanates that is destined for the communication apparatus that is switched off.

A method of communicating according to claim 1, the communication apparatus conveying a detach request message to the network in the switch off step so as to signal the network that the communication apparatus is about to be switched off, the detach message identification being included in the detach request message.

A method of communicating according to claim 2, the detach request message being in conformity with a communication standard, which provides that the detach request message comprises a spare portion, the communication apparatus including the detach message identification in the spare portion of the detach request message.

4. A method of communicating according to claim 1, the method comprising a detach message list composing step in which an operator of the network allows the user of the communication apparatus to include user defined detach messages in the list of detach messages.

A method of communicating according to claim 1, the communication apparatus establishing, in the switch off step, whether the user has selected a detach message within a predefined time interval and, if not, assigning a default value to the detach message identification that is conveyed to the network, the default value representing a default detach message.

A communication apparatus comprising a processor being programmed to allow a user to select a detach message from a list of detach messages in response to a switch off command, and being programmed to convey a detach message identification to the network and to subsequently switch off, the detach message identification representing the detach message that the user has selected.

A computer program product for a communication apparatus, the computer program product comprising a set of instructions that, when loaded into the communication apparatus, causes the communication apparatus to carry out a switch off step in response to a switch off command, in which step the communication apparatus allows a user to select a detach message from a list of detach messages, and in which the communication apparatus conveys a detach message identification to the network and, subsequently, switches off, the detach message identification representing the detach message MSG that the user has selected.

8. A network being arranged to receive a detach message identification that emanates from a communication apparatus, the detach message identification representing a detach message that a user of the communication apparatus has selected in a switch off step, which ends by switching off the communication apparatus, the network being further arranged to convey the detach message to another communication apparatus from which a call emanates that is destined for the communication apparatus that is switched off.

9. A computer program product for a network, the computer program product comprising a set of instructions that, when loaded into the network, causes the network to carry out:

a detach request handling step in which the network receives a detach message identification that emanates from a communication apparatus, the detach message identification representing a detach message that a user of the communication apparatus has selected in a switch off step, which ends by switching off the communication apparatus;

a call handling step in which the network conveys the detach message to another communication apparatus from which a call emanates that is destined for the communication apparatus that is switched off.

10. A communication signal comprising a detach message identification that emanates from a communication apparatus, the detach message identification presenting a detach message that a user of the communication apparatus has selected in a switch off step, which ends by switching off the communication apparatus, the detach message being destined for another communication apparatus from which a call emanates that is destined for the communication apparatus that is switched off.
