- presenting information on a handheld device display screen in a first format when the display screen is in a first orientation relative to a user;
receiving an indication that the display screen is in a second orientation different from the first orientation; and
in response to the received indication, presenting information on the display screen in a second format, whereinone of the first and second formats includes information objects that are either not present, or have different relative positions, in the other of the first and second formats.

a display screen; a sliding member coupling the display screen to the apparatus and permitting sliding movement of the display screen relative to other components of the apparatus; and a processor configured to perform operations that include receiving an indication that the sliding member is in a first position corresponding to a landscape orientation of the display screen relative to a user of the apparatus, in response to receiving an indication that the sliding member is in the first position, presenting an electronic service guide on the display screen in a horizontal service guide format, receiving an indication that the sliding member is in a second position corresponding to a portrait orientation of the display screen relative to a user of the apparatus, in response to receiving an indication that the sliding member is in the second position, presenting an electronic service guide on the display screen in a vertical service guide format, receiving an indication that the display screen has been displaced in a direction generally parallel to a plane of the display screen, and in response to the received indication of displacement, laterally scrolling information presented on the display screen in a direction opposite to the first direction.
