Abstract

The present invention relates to a stent (10) for the positioning and anchoring of a valvular prosthesis (100) in an implantation site in the heart of a patient. Specifically, the present invention relates to an expandable stent for an endoprosthesis used in the treatment of a narrowing of a cardiac valve and/or a cardiac valve insufficiency. So as to ensure that no longitudinal displacement of a valvular prosthesis (100) fastened to a stent (10) will occur relative the stent (10) in the implanted state of the stent (10), even given the peristaltic motion of the heart, the stent (10) according to the invention comprises at least one fastening portion (11) via which the valvular prosthesis (100) is connectable to the stent (10). The stent (10) further comprises positioning arches (15) and retaining arches (16), whereby at least one positioning arch (15) is connected to at least one retaining arch (16) via a first connecting land (17). The stent (10) moreover comprises at least one auxiliary retaining arch (18) which connects the respective arms (16′, 16″) of the at least one retaining arch (16) connected to the at least one positioning arch (15).

Claims

1. An expandable stent comprising a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve, a plurality of retaining arches configured to support a heart valve prosthesis, and at least one auxiliary arch interspaced between two adjacent retaining arches.

2. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of positioning arches, each of the plurality of retaining arches, and the at least one auxiliary arch includes a substantially U-shaped or V-shaped structure.

The expandable stent according to claim 1, further including a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient'"'"'s body and an expanded mode when implanted, wherein the at least one auxiliary arch is configured to press against a vascular wall with a radially-acting force so as to anchor said stent when the stent is in the expanded mode.

5. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of retaining arches includes first and second arms and at least one fastening portion is disposed in at least one arm of at least one of the plurality of retaining arches.

The expandable stent according to claim 5, wherein a plurality of fastening holes are configured in the at least one fastening portion, and a valvular prosthesis is connected to the at least one fastening portion via at least one thread or wire guided through at least a portion of the plurality of fastening holes.

41. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein the at least one auxiliary arch is a plurality of auxiliary arches, and each auxiliary arch is positioned between two adjacent retaining arches.

42. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein the at least one auxiliary arch is a plurality of auxiliary arches, and the quantity of auxiliary arches is the same as the quantity of retaining arches.

The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of positioning arches and the plurality of retaining arches includes a closed end, and the closed end of a respective positioning arch is substantially circumferentially aligned with respect to the closed end of an associated retaining arch.

44. The expandable stent according to claim 43, wherein the at least one auxiliary arch includes a closed end that is circumferentially offset with respect to each of the closed ends of the retaining arches.

45. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein:

the stent is configured to transition from a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient to an expanded mode when implanted relative to a native heart valve having valve leaflets of the patient; and

the plurality of positioning arches are configured to be positioned on a first side of the valve leaflets of the native heart valve when the at least one auxiliary arch is positioned on a second side of the valve leaflets, the second side being opposite the first side.

46. The expandable stent according to claim 5, wherein the at least one fastening portion is a plurality of fastening portions, each of the plurality of fastening portions being disposed in a respective arm of a retaining arch.

47. The expandable stent according to claim 5, wherein:

the at least one fastening portion is a plurality of fastening portions;

each of the plurality of retaining arches includes two arms; and

each arm of a retaining arch includes one of the plurality of fastening portions.

48. The expandable stent according to claim 1, further including at least one retaining head configured to releasably engage a catheter system.

49. The expandable stent according claim 48, wherein the at least one retaining head has an oval shape.

50. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein the quantity of positioning arches consists essentially of three and the quantity of retaining arches consists essentially of three.

51. The expandable stent according to claim 1, wherein:

the at least one auxiliary arch includes a plurality of auxiliary arches, each one of the plurality of auxiliary arches interspaced between two adjacent retaining arches;

the quantity of retaining arches consists essentially of three; and

the quantity of auxiliary arches consists essentially of three.

52. The expandable stent according to claim 1, further including a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient'"'"'s body and an expanded mode when implanted, wherein each of the plurality of positioning arches is substantially circumferentially aligned and radially offset with a respective one of the plurality of retaining arches when in the expanded mode.

8. An expandable stent comprising a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve, a plurality of retaining arches configured to support a heart valve prosthesis, and at least one fastening portion including a plurality of holes.

9. The expandable stent according to claim 8, further comprising a valvular prosthesis connected to the stent via the at least one fastening portion.

10. The expandable stent (10) according to claim 9, wherein the valvular prosthesis is fastened to the at least one fastening portion via at least one thread or wire guided through at least one of the plurality of fastening holes.

15. The expandable stent according to claim 8, further comprising at least one auxiliary arch interspaced between two adjacent retaining arches and configured to press against a vascular wall in which the stent is deployed.

17. The expandable stent according to claim 8, wherein each of the plurality of positioning arches and each of the plurality of retaining arches includes a substantially U-shaped or V-shaped structure.

21. The expandable stent according to claim 8, further including at least one retaining head configured to releasably engage a catheter system.

53. The expandable stent according to claim 8, wherein the at least one fastening portion is disposed in an arm of at least one of the plurality of retaining arches.

54. The expandable stent according to claim 8, wherein:

the at least one fastening portion is a plurality of fastening portions;

each of the plurality of retaining arches includes two arms; and

each arm of a retaining arch includes one of the plurality of fastening portions.

55. The expandable stent according to claim 8, further including a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient'"'"'s body and an expanded mode when implanted, wherein the plurality of holes are substantially the same shape in the collapsed and expanded modes.

56. The expandable stent according to claim 8, wherein the quantity of positioning arches consists essentially of three and the quantity of retaining arches consists essentially of three.

57. The expandable stent according to claim 15, wherein:

the at least one auxiliary arch includes a plurality of auxiliary arches, each one of the plurality of auxiliary arches interspaced between two adjacent retaining arches;

the quantity of retaining arches consists essentially of three; and

the quantity of auxiliary arches consists essentially of three.

58. The expandable stent according to claim 8, further including a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient'"'"'s body and an expanded mode when implanted, wherein each of the plurality of positioning arches is substantially circumferentially aligned and radially offset with a respective one of the plurality of retaining arches when in the expanded mode.

59. A stent configured to transition from a collapsed mode when being introduced into a patient'"'"'s body to an expanded mode when implanted, comprising:

positioning arches configured to be positioned within respective pockets of a native heart valve when in the expanded mode;

retaining arches substantially circumferentially aligned and radially offset with respect to an associated positioning arch;

at least one auxiliary arch interspaced between two adjacent retaining arches; and

at least one fastening portion formed in an arm of a respective retaining arch and having a plurality of holes formed therein;

the quantity of positioning arches and the quantity of retaining arches each respectively consisting essentially of three.

60. A method of treating a native valve with a heart valve prosthesis supported on a stent including a plurality of first arches each having an open end joined to an open end of an adjacent first arch, a plurality of second arches each having an open end joined to an open end of an adjacent second arch, and at least one third arch having an open end interspaced between and joined to two adjacent second arches, the method comprising:

positioning the plurality of first arches within pockets of the native heart valve;

positioning at least a portion of the native heart valve between the plurality of first arches and the plurality of second arches;

pressing the at least a portion of the native heart valve against a vessel wall with the plurality of second arches and the at least one third arch to secure the heart valve prosthesis within the vessel.

61. The method of claim 60, wherein the stent is configured to expand from a collapsed mode to an expanded mode.

62. The method of claim 61, wherein the plurality of first arches are configured to expand independently of the plurality of second arches and the at least one third arch.

63. The method of claim 61, wherein the at least one third arch is a plurality of third arches, each third arch interspaced between and joined to two adjacent second arches.
