Abstract

A method for personalizing a multimedia application includes receiving, from a module of the multimedia application, a request for a multimedia output, wherein the request is of a type; providing user data of a user of the multimedia application, the user data being representative of a personal taste of the user; and determining a multimedia output depending on the type and the user data.

Claims

1. A method for personalizing a multimedia application, comprising:

receiving, from a module of the multimedia application, a request for a multimedia output, the request being of a type;

providing user data of a user of the multimedia application, said user data being representative of a personal taste of the user; and

determining a multimedia output depending on the type and the user data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the type depends on a situation, a state and/or an event occuring in the multimedia application.

3. The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein said type indicates a meaning, feeling and/or emotion, and wherein said multimedia output transports the meaning, feeling and/or emotion to the user.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the meaning, feeling and/or emotion are negative or positive.

5. The method of claim 3 or 4, wherein the meaning is selected from a group including success, failure, gain, loss, danger and security.

6. The method of any of claims 3 to 5, wherein the feeling is selected from a group including calm, dramatic, relaxed, excited, happy, depressed, proud, timid and expectant feelings.

7. The method of any of claims 3 to 6, wherein the emotion is selected from a group including joy, sorrow, fear and hate.

8. The method of any of claims 3 to 7, wherein the multimedia output comprises audio data and/or video data and produces a sound effect and/or a visual effect transporting the meaning, feeling and/or emotion to the user.

12. The method of any of claims 1 to 10, wherein the multimedia output is determined from a multimedia collection comprised within the user data in accordance with the type.

9. The method of any of the preceeding claims, wherein the user data comprises a user profile descriptive of the personal taste of the user.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the user profile is determined by observing the user'"'"'s behaviour and/or by having the user state his preferences explicitely.

11. The method of any of the preceeding claims, wherein the multimedia output is determined from a multimedia collection provided by a content provider in accordance with the personal taste of the user.

13. The method of any of the preceeding claims, wherein determining the multimedia output comprises evaluating meta-data of multimedia items comprised within the multimedia collection.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the meta-data are descriptive of the meaning, feeling and/or emotion that are to be transported by a respective multimedia item.

15. The method of claim 13 or 14, wherein the multimedia output is determined on the basis of one of the multimedia items such that its respective meta-data matches the type.

16. The method of claim 13 or 14, wherein the multimedia output is determined on the basis of one of the multimedia items such that its respective meta-data matches the personal taste of the user.

17. The method of any of claims 13 to 16, wherein at least a part of the meta-data are comprised within the multimedia collection.

18. The method of any of claims 13 to 16, wherein at least a part of the meta-data are requested and received from a remote server.

19. A device, comprising:

a storage configured to store user data of a user of a multimedia application, said user data being representative of a personal taste of the user;

a data processor configured to execute the multimedia application, said multimedia application comprising a module configured to send a request for a mulitmedia output, the request being of a type, and a further module configured to receive the request and further to determine a multimedia output depending on the type and the user data.

20. A system, comprising:

a server device comprising a storage configured to store content items, and a transmitter configured to transmit the content items;

a client device comprising a storage configured to store user data of a user of a multimedia application, said user data being representative of a personal taste of the user;

a receiver configured to receive the content items from the server, and a data processor configured to execute the multimedia application, said multimedia application comprising a module configured to send a request for a mulitmedia output, the request being of a type, and a further module configured to receive the request and further to determine a multimedia output depending on the type, the user data, and the content items.

21. A computer readable medium comprising computer program instructions that cause a computer to execute a method for personalizing a multimedia application, comprising:

receiving from a module of the multimedia application a request for a multimedia output, the request being of a type;

providing user data of a user of the multimedia application related to a personal taste of the user;

determining a multimedia output depending on the type and the user data.
