Abstract

The invention relates to a small glass cutting wheel for producing a scribed predetermined breaking line, wherein the cutting wheel has a radial peripheral line which defines an outer periphery of the wheel and which lies in a main plane of the wheel and at least partially forms a cutting edge. The cutting edge includes cutting teeth (7) which are circumferentially spaced from each other by intermediate tooth spaces (8) and the height and/or circumferential extension of which exceeds a possible random surface roughness. For providing a small glass cutting wheel with which particularly flat displays can be manufactured with an improved edge quality and with which rejects during the necessary separation of the glass plate piece can be reduced, it is proposed that at least a part or preferably all intermediate tooth spaces (8) include a cutting edge (9). Preferably, the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth space and the cutting edges of the teeth are arranged approximately in the same main plane of the small wheel.

Claims

1. A small glass cutting wheel for producing a scribed predetermined breaking line, said small cutting wheel comprising a radial peripheral line defining an outer periphery of the small wheel, which peripheral line lies in a main plane of the small wheel and at least partially forms a cutting edge having cutting teeth which are circumferentially spaced from each other by intermediate tooth spaces, and of which the height and/or circumferential extension exceeds a possible random surface roughness, wherein at least a part or all of the intermediate tooth spaces present a cutting edge.

2. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces and the cutting edges of the teeth at least approximately lie in the same main plane of the small wheel.

3. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the intermediate tooth spaces are formed by recesses in at least one or in both side faces of the small wheel.

4. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein at least some of the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces include portions ascending towards the respectively adjacent back of the tooth.

5. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the inclined side faces of the small wheel converge into a ridge and that the cutting teeth are attached to the ridge.

6. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the enclosed flank angle of the intermediate tooth spaces is at least substantially equal to the flank angle of the teeth.

7. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the flanks of the intermediate tooth spaces are at least substantially plane.

8. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces are radially rearwardly offset from the cutting edges of the teeth by approximately 0.5 μ

m to 25 μ

m.

9. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein cutting teeth or the intermediate tooth spaces or the cutting teeth and the intermediate tooth spaces each have a longitudinal extension in the circumferential direction of approximately 5 μ

m to 200 μ

m.

10. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the teeth include a front-sided cutting edge in the cutting direction or oppositely to the cutting direction or in both directions.

11. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the intermediate tooth spaces rise in height from their base towards the back of the tooth via a transition zone and that the transition zone is at least partially formed as a cutting edge.

12. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the circumferential extension of the teeth is smaller than or equal to the circumferential extension of the intermediate tooth spaces.

13. A small wheel according to claim 1, wherein the small wheel is comprised of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) or of a hard metal material which may be provided with a coating.

A cutting machine with a table for supporting a glass body to be scribed and with a cutting head for receiving a small cutting wheel, said cutting head being movable into a working position contacting the glass body under a contact pressure of the small cutting wheel, wherein means for adjusting the contact pressure are provided and wherein for scribing the glass body the cutting head can be guided along a line, with the small cutting wheel applied against the body, wherein a small cutting wheel according to claim 1 is arranged on the cutting head 56.

A cutting machine according to claim 14, wherein the contact pressure is set such that (I) with the glass body in its supported position the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces will come into a scribing engagement with the glass body or (II) that with the glass body in its supported position the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces will not come into a scribing engagement with the glass body, at least not essentially.

A cutting machine according to claim 14, wherein the glass body is provided on the surface thereof with a film or a coating and that the contact pressure is set such that with the glass body in its supported position the cutting edges of the intermediate tooth spaces will cut into the film or coating and (I) will not come into a scribing engagement with the glass body, at least not essentially, or (II) will come into a scribing engagement with the glass body.

17. A manual glass cutter with a handle for manually guiding the glass cutter and with a seat for a glass cutting wheel, wherein a small glass cutting wheel according to claim 1 is supported.
