Abstract

According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention there is provided a bite block assembly adapted for capnography and oxygen delivery to a subject, the bite block assembly including a first capnography passageway adapted for passage therethrough of exhaled breath from the subject to a capnograph and a second oxygen delivery passageway, separate from the first passageway, adapted for passage therethrough of oxygen from an oxygen source to the mouth of the subject.

Claims

1. A bite block assembly adapted for capnography and oxygen delivery to a subject, said bite block assembly comprising:

a first capnography passageway adapted for passage therethrough of exhaled breath from said subject to a capnograph; and

a second oxygen delivery passageway, separate from said first passageway, adapted for passage therethrough of oxygen from an oxygen source to the mouth of said subject.

2. A bite block assembly according to claim 1, and also including a gas collection cannula having formed therein said first capnography passageway.

3. A bite block assembly according to claim 2, and wherein said gas collection cannula also comprises an oxygen delivery cannula adapted to deliver oxygen from said oxygen source to the nostrils of said subject.

4. A bite block assembly according to claim 3 and wherein said oxygen delivery cannula is connected to said oxygen source by a gas delivery tube.

5. A bite block assembly according to claim 1, and also comprising a bite block having formed therein said second oxygen delivery passageway.

6. A bite block assembly according to claim 3, and also comprising a tube element adapted to connect said oxygen delivery cannula to said second oxygen delivery passageway.

7. A bite block assembly according to claim 6 and wherein said tube element comprises a branch of said gas delivery tube, and is adapted to connect to said second oxygen delivery passageway.

8. A bite block assembly according to claim 7 and wherein said tube element is sealed by a normally closed valve.

9. A bite block assembly according to claim 8 and wherein said normally closed valve comprises a luer valve.

10. A bite block assembly according to claim 9 and wherein a mating luer portion of said luer valve is mounted onto said oxygen delivery passageway.

11. A bite block assembly according to claim 6 and wherein said tube element is permanently mounted onto said bite block and is adapted to connect to said gas delivery tube at a connection point formed therein.

12. A bite block assembly according to claim 11 and wherein said connection point is sealed by a normally closed valve.

13. A bite block assembly according to claim 12 and wherein said normally closed valve comprises a luer valve.

14. A bite block assembly according to claim 13 and wherein a mating luer portion of said luer valve is mounted onto said tube element.

15. A capnography system comprising:

a capnograph;

a bite block adapted to maintain the mouth of a subject open during a medical procedure;

an exhaled breath sampling element which is connectable to said capnograph and mountable onto said bite block; and

an oral oxygen delivery passageway which is connectable to said bite block for delivering oxygen from an oxygen source to the mouth of said subject.

16. A capnography system according to claim 15, and wherein said exhaled breath sampling element has at least one gas collection passageway, formed therein, said gas collection passageway being configured to collect exhaled breath of said subject.

17. A capnography system according to claim 16, and wherein said at least one gas collection passageway comprises a nasal gas collection passageway configured for collecting breath exhaled through at least one nostril of said subject.

18. A capnography system according to claim 16, and wherein said at least one gas collection passageway comprises an oral gas collection passageway configured for collecting breath exhaled through the mouth of said subject.

19. A capnography system according to claim 15, and also comprising a nasal gas delivery passageway for delivering oxygen from said oxygen source to at least one nostril of said subject.

20. A capnography system according to claim 19 and wherein said nasal gas delivery passageway is connected to said oxygen source by a gas delivery tube.

21. A capnography system according to claim 20 and wherein said oral oxygen delivery passageway comprises a tubular branch of said gas delivery tube.

22. A capnography system according to claim 21 and wherein said oral oxygen delivery passageway is sealed by a normally closed valve.

23. A capnography system according to claim 22 and wherein said normally closed valve comprises a luer valve.

24. A capnography system according to claim 23 and wherein a mating luer portion of said luer valve is mounted onto said oral oxygen delivery passageway.

25. A capnography system according to claim 20 and wherein said oral oxygen delivery passageway is permanently mounted onto said bite block and is adapted to connect to said gas delivery tube at a connection point formed therein.

26. A capnography system according to claim 25 and wherein said connection point is sealed by a normally closed valve.

27. A capnography system according to claim 26 and wherein said normally closed valve comprises a luer valve.

28. A capnography system according to claim 27 and wherein a mating luer portion of said luer valve is mounted onto said oral oxygen delivery passageway.
