Abstract

An automated emergency response method and system to remotely and timely update emergency response protocols, such as Emergency Medical Dispatch Protocol Reference Systems (EMDPRS), is provided. A method and system to remotely and timely update the EMDPRS in a controlled, consistent and timely manner is also provided. A method that can provide accurate, up-to-date and consistent EMDPRS provides the advantage of increasing operator readiness and efficiency in responding to an emergency, and increases the chances of success in dealing with the emergency.

Claims

1. A method for providing response protocols to recipients over a network, the method comprising:

populating a data repository with one or more protocols; and

providing at least one protocol to at least one recipient upon occurrence of an emergency via the network;

wherein the provided at least one protocol comprises a response protocol corresponding to the emergency.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising updating at least one of the protocols in the data repository.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein updating the at least one of the protocols occurs at regular intervals or when a new development in the at least one of the protocols occurs.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more protocols comprise emergency response protocols.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one recipient comprises an emergency responder.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein providing the at least one protocol takes place via a device accessible to the recipient.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the device is one of at least a desktop computer, a portable computer, a cellular phone and a personal digital assistant.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the provided at least one protocol comprises at least one of written instructions, animated images, still images, a video display, and audio instructions.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein providing the at least one protocol over the network comprises providing the at least one protocol over at least one of a web-based network, an Internet network, a local area network, and a wireless network.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one protocol is provided to the at least one recipient on the basis of emergency information provided by the at least one recipient.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the emergency information provided by the at least one recipient comprises one or more responses to one or more questions provided to the at least one recipient.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the one or more questions are included in the at least one protocol.

13. A system for providing response protocols to recipients over a network, the system comprising:

means for populating a data repository with one or more protocols; and

means for providing at least one protocol to at least one recipient upon occurrence of an emergency via the network;

wherein the provided at least one protocol comprises a response protocol corresponding to the emergency.

14. The system of claim 13, further comprising means for updating at least one of the protocols in the data repository.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the need comprises an emergency.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the one or more protocols comprise emergency response protocols.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the at least one recipient comprises an emergency responder.

18. The system of claim 13, wherein the at least one protocol is provided via a device accessible to the recipient.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the device is one of at least a desktop computer, a portable computer, a cellular phone and a personal digital assistant.

20. The system of claim 13, wherein the provided at least one protocol comprises at least one of written instructions, animated images, still images, a video display, and audio instructions.

21. The system of claim 13, wherein the network comprises at least one of a web-based network, an Internet network, a local area network, and a wireless network.

22. The system of claim 13, wherein the at least one protocol is provided to the at least one recipient on the basis of emergency information provided by the at least one recipient.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the emergency information provided by the at least one recipient comprises one or more responses to one or more questions provided to the at least one recipient.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the one or more questions are included in the at least one protocol.

25. A system for providing response protocols to recipients over a network, the system comprising:

a processor;

a user interface functioning via the processor; and

a repository accessible by the processor;

wherein

a data repository is populated with one or more protocols;

at least one protocol is provided to at least one recipient upon occurrence of an emergency via the network; and

the provided at least one protocol comprises a response protocol corresponding to the emergency.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein at least one of the protocols is updated in the data repository.

27. The system of claim 25, wherein the processor is housed on a terminal.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the terminal is selected from a group consisting of a personal computer, a minicomputer, a main frame computer, a microcomputer, a hand held device, and a telephonic device.

29. The system of claim 25, wherein the processor is housed on a server.

30. A computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having control logic stored therein for causing a computer to provide response protocols to recipients over a network, the control logic comprising:

first computer readable program code means for populating a data repository with one or more protocols;

second computer readable means for providing at least one protocol to at least one recipient upon occurrence of an emergency via the network; and

third computer readable means for updating at least one of the protocols in the data repository;

wherein the provided at least one protocol comprises a response protocol corresponding to the emergency.
