Abstract

Various example embodiments are disclosed. According to an example embodiment, a method may include receiving data which has been encoded according to a first higher complexity protection scheme and compressed. The method may also include decompressing the data. The method may also include decoding the data according to the first higher complexity protection scheme using a first higher complexity key. The method may also include encoding at least the first portion of the data according to a second higher complexity protection scheme using a second higher complexity key. The method may also include encoding at least a second portion of the data according to a lower complexity protection scheme using a lower complexity key.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving data which has been encoded according to a first higher complexity protection scheme and compressed;

decoding the data according to the first higher complexity protection scheme using a first higher complexity key;

decompressing the data;

encoding at least the first portion of the data according to a second higher complexity protection scheme using a second higher complexity key; and

encoding at least a second portion of the data according to a lower complexity protection scheme using a lower complexity key.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the receiving the data includes receiving the data which has been encrypted and compressed;

the decoding the data includes decrypting the data using a first encryption key; and

encoding at least the first portion of the data includes encrypting at least the first portion of the data using a second encryption key.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating the lower complexity key based on a first portion of the data.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein:

generating the lower complexity key includes generating a scrambling key based on the first portion of the data; and

encoding at least the second portion of the data includes scrambling the second portion of data using the scrambling key.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the encoding at least the second portion of the data includes encoding all of the data, except the at least the first portion of the data encoded according to the second higher complexity protection scheme, according to the lower complexity protection scheme using the lower complexity key.

6. An apparatus comprising:

a port configured to receive data which has been encoded according to a first higher complexity protection scheme and compressed;

a decoder configured to decode the data according to the first higher complexity protection scheme using a first higher complexity key;

a decompressor configured to decompress the data;

a first encoder configured to encode at least the first portion of the data according to a second higher complexity protection scheme using a second higher complexity key; and

a second encoder configured to encode at least a second portion of the data according to a lower complexity protection scheme using a lower complexity key.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the first higher complexity protection scheme is substantially similar to the second higher complexity protection scheme.

8. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein:

the port is configured to receive the data which has been encrypted and compressed;

the decoder is configured to decrypt the data using a first encryption key; and

the first encoder is configured to encrypt at least the first portion of the data using a second encryption key.

9. The apparatus of claim 6, further comprising a key generator configured to generate the lower complexity key based on a first portion of the data.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the key generator is configured to generate the lower complexity key based on the first portion of the data after the first portion of the data has been decoded according to the first higher complexity scheme using the first higher complexity key and decompressed.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein:

the key generator is configured to generate a scrambling key based on the first portion of the data; and

the second encoder is configured to scramble the second portion of the data using the scrambling key.

The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the second encoder is configured to encode all of the data, except the at least the first portion of the data encoded according to the second higher complexity protection scheme, according to the lower complexity protection scheme using the lower complexity key.

13. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein:

the port is configured to receive video data which has been encoded according to the first higher complexity protection scheme and compressed;

the decoder is configured to decode the video data according to the first higher complexity protection scheme using the first higher complexity key;

the decompressor is configured to decompress the video data;

the key generator is configured to generate the lower complexity key based on a first portion of the video data;

the first encoder is configured to encode at least the first portion of the video data according to the second higher complexity protection scheme using the second higher complexity key; and

the second encoder is configured to encode at least a second portion of the video data according to the lower complexity protection scheme using the lower complexity key.

14. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein:

the port is configured to successively receive data frame which have been encoded according to the first higher complexity protection scheme and compressed;

the decoder is configured to successively decoding each data frame according to the first higher complexity protection scheme using the first higher complexity key;

the decompressor is configured to successively decompressing each data frame;

the key generator is configured to successively generate a lower complexity key for each data frame based on a first portion of the data frame;

the first encoder is configured to successively encode at least a first portion of each data frame according to the second higher complexity protection scheme using the second higher complexity key; and

the second encoder is configured to successively encode at least a second portion of the data according to a lower complexity protection scheme using the lower complexity key generated for the respective data frame.

15. A computer program product for decoding data, the computer program product being tangibly embodied on a computer-readable medium and including executable code that, when executed, is configured to cause a central processing unit to:

receive data;

decode a first portion of the data according to a higher complexity protection scheme using a higher complexity key; and

decode a second portion of the data according to a lower complexity protection scheme using a lower complexity key.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the computer program product is further configured to cause the central processing unit to send the decoded data to a graphics processor.

17. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the computer program product is further configured to cause the central processing unit to generate the lower complexity key based on the decoded first portion of the data.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the computer program product is further configured to cause the central processing unit to:

receive video data;

decode a first portion of the video data according to the higher complexity protection scheme using the higher complexity key;

generate the lower complexity key based on the decoded first portion of the video data; and

decode a second portion of the video data according to the lower complexity protection scheme using the generated lower complexity key.

19. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the computer program product is further configured to cause the central processing unit to:

decrypt the first portion of the data using an encryption key;

generate a scrambling key based on the decrypted first portion of the data; and

descramble the second portion of the data using the generated scrambling key.

20. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the computer program product is further configured to cause the central processing unit to:

successively receive data frames;

successively decode a first portion of each data frame according to the higher complexity protection scheme using the higher complexity key;

successively generate a lower complexity key for each respective data frame based on the decoded first portion of the respective data frame; and

successively decode a second portion of each respective data frame according to the lower complexity protection scheme using the generated lower complexity key for the respective data frame.
