Abstract

Methods and systems for transcribing portions of a telephone conversation to text enables users to request transcription such as by pressing a button on a mobile device, with the request transmitted to a server including transcription software. The server transcribes some or all of the telephone conversation to text, and transmits the text to the mobile device. The text data may be scanned for selected information, and only the selected information transmitted to the mobile device. The selected information may be automatically stored in memory of the mobile device, such as in an address book.

Claims

1. A method for transcribing a telephone conversation, comprising:

receiving a transcription request from a mobile device at a server connected to the mobile device;

receiving audio data from the telephone conversation at the server;

decrypting at least a portion of the audio data in the server;

transcribing the decrypted audio data into text data in the server; and

transmitting at least a portion of the text data from the server to the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising

buffering at the server a portion of the audio data;

and

transcribing the buffered audio data into text data at the server.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving the transmitted at least a portion of the text data at the mobile device; and

storing the received text data in memory of the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the text data is stored in an address book in the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising extracting contact information from the transcribed text data, wherein only the extracted contact information is transmitted from the server to the mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

monitoring packets of audio data to determine their origin; and

identifying an origin of the audio data,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data originating from a party other than the mobile device.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

comparing audio data to a user voice profile store in memory of the server; and

identifying audio data matching the user voice profile,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data not matching the user voice profile.

8. A mobile device, comprising:

a processor;

a transceiver coupled to the processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor,

wherein the processor is configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising;

transmitting to a server a request to begin transcribing audio data into text data;

receiving text data from the server; and

automatically storing the text data in the memory.

9. The mobile device of claim 8, wherein the processor is configured with software instructions to automatically store the text data in an address book stored in the memory.

10. The mobile device of claim 8, further comprising a transcription request button coupled to the processor, wherein the processor is further configured with software instructions to transmit to the server the request to begin transcribing in response to a first press of the transcription request button.

11. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured with software instructions to perform a different function when the transcription request button is pressed when a voice call is not active.

12. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured with software instructions to transmit to the server a request to terminate transcribing audio data into text data in response to the a second press of the transcription request button.

13. A mobile device, comprising:

means for transmitting to a server a request to begin transcribing audio data into text data;

means for receiving text data from the server; and

means for automatically storing the text data in the memory.

14. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein means for automatically storing the text data in the memory comprises means for automatically storing the text data in an address book stored in the memory.

15. The mobile device of claim 13, further comprising means for receiving a user input indicating that a request should be transmitted to a server a request to begin transcribing audio data into text data.

16. The mobile device of claim 15, wherein the means for receiving a user input indicates that a different function should be performed when a voice call is not active.

17. The mobile device of claim 15, further comprising means for transmitting to the server a request to terminate transcribing audio data into text data in response to a second activation of the means for receiving a user input.

18. A tangible processor-readable memory having stored therein processor executable software instructions which are configured to cause a mobile device processor to perform steps comprising:

transmitting to a server a request to begin transcribing audio data into text data;

receiving text data from the server; and

automatically storing the text data in the memory.

19. The tangible processor-readable memory of claim 18, wherein the processor executable software instructions are further configured to cause the mobile device processor to automatically store the text data in an address book stored in memory of the mobile device.

20. The tangible processor-readable memory of claim 18, wherein the processor executable software instructions are further configured to cause the mobile device processor to transmit to the server the request to begin transcribing in response to a first press of the transcription request button.

21. The tangible processor-readable memory of claim 20, wherein the processor executable software instructions are further configured to cause the mobile device processor to perform a different function when the transcription request button is pressed when a voice call is not active.

22. The tangible processor-readable memory of claim 20, wherein the processor executable software instructions are further configured to cause the mobile device processor to transmit to the server a request to terminate transcribing audio data into text data in response to the a second press of the transcription request button.

23. A server, comprising:

a server processor;

a network interface coupled to the processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor,

wherein the server processor is configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising;

receiving via the network interface a transcription request from a mobile device at a server connected to the mobile device via a network;

receiving via the network interface audio data from the telephone conversation;

decrypting at least a portion of the audio data;

transcribing the decrypted audio data into text data; and

transmitting via the network interface at least a portion of the text data to the mobile device.

24. The server of claim 23, wherein the server processor is further configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising:

buffering a portion of the audio data; and

converting the buffered audio data into text data.

25. The server of claim 23, wherein the server processor is further configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising extracting contact information from the converted text data, wherein only the extracted contact information is transmitted to the mobile device.

26. The server of claim 23, wherein the server processor is further configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising:

monitoring packets of audio data to determine their origin; and

identifying an origin of the audio data,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data originating from a party other than the mobile device.

27. The server of claim 23, wherein the server processor is further configured with software instructions to perform steps comprising:

comparing audio data to a user voice profile store in memory of the server; and

identifying audio data matching the user voice profile,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data not matching the user voice profile.

28. A server, comprising:

means for receiving a transcription request from a mobile device at a server connected to the mobile device via a network;

means for receiving audio data from the telephone conversation at the server;

means for decrypting at least a portion of the audio data in the server;

means for transcribing the decrypted audio data into text data in the server; and

means for transmitting at least a portion of the text data from the server to the mobile device.

29. The server of claim 28, further comprising

means for buffering at the server a portion of the audio data;

and

means for converting the buffered audio data into text data at the server.

30. The server of claim 29, further comprising means for extracting contact information from the transcribed text data, wherein only the extracted contact information is transmitted from the server to the mobile device.

31. The server of claim 28, further comprising:

means for monitoring packets of audio data to determine their origin; and

means for identifying an origin of the audio data,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data originating from a party other than the mobile device.

32. The server of claim 28, further comprising:

means for comparing audio data to a user voice profile store in memory of the server; and

means for identifying audio data matching the user voice profile,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data not matching the user voice profile.

33. A tangible storage medium having stored therein server-executable software instructions configured to cause a server processor to perform steps comprising:

receiving a transcription request from a mobile device;

receiving audio data from the telephone conversation;

decrypting at least a portion of the audio data;

transcribing the decrypted audio data into text data; and

transmitting at least a portion of the text data to the mobile device.

34. The tangible storage medium of claim 33, wherein the stored server-executable software instructions are configured to cause the server to perform further steps comprising:

buffering a portion of the audio data; and

converting the buffered audio data into text data.

The tangible storage medium of claim 33, wherein the stored server-executable software instructions are configured to cause the server to perform further steps comprising extracting contact information from the converted text data, wherein only the extracted contact information is transmitted to the mobile device.

36. The tangible storage medium of claim 33, wherein the stored server-executable software instructions are configured to cause the server to perform further steps comprising:

monitoring packets of audio data to determine their origin; and

identifying an origin of the audio data,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data originating from a party other than the mobile device.

37. The tangible storage medium of claim 33, wherein the stored server-executable software instructions are configured to cause the server to perform further steps comprising:

comparing audio data to a user voice profile store in memory of the server; and

identifying audio data matching the user voice profile,

wherein the portion of the audio data decrypted is limited to audio data not matching the user voice profile.
