Abstract

Techniques to manage presence information are described. An apparatus may comprise a presence management component operative to manage presence information for a presentity node. The presence management component may comprise a presence normalization module operative to retrieve presence temporal information for a home time zone, and normalize the presence temporal information for a local time zone of the presentity node to form normalized presence temporal information. The presence management component may further comprise a presence control module communicatively coupled to the presence normalization module. The presence control module may be operative to send presence state information from the presentity node to a presence server based on the normalized presence temporal information. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

retrieving presence temporal information for a home time zone;

normalizing the presence temporal information for a local time zone of a presentity node to form normalized presence temporal information; and

sending presence state information from the presentity node to a presence server based on the normalized presence temporal information.

The method of claim 1, comprising retrieving presence business temporal information representing business hours when a user is available for business matters in the home time zone, and presence personal temporal information representing personal hours when a user is available for personal matters in the home time zone.

3. The method of claim 2, comprising normalizing presence business temporal information for the local time zone to form normalized presence business temporal information, and presence personal temporal information for the local time zone to form normalized presence personal temporal information.

4. The method of claim 3, comprising sending presence available state information from the presentity node to the presence server when a current date and time match the normalized presence business temporal information, and presence unavailable state information from the presentity node to the presence server when the current date and time does not match the normalized presence business temporal information.

5. The method of claim 3, comprising sending presence available state information from the presentity node to the presence server when a current date and time match the normalized presence personal temporal information, and presence unavailable state information from the presentity node to the presence server when a current date and time does not match the normalized presence personal temporal information.

6. The method of claim 1, comprising generating control directives for subsequent handling operations for an incoming communication request received by the presentity node based on the presence state information for the presentity node.

7. The method of claim 1, comprising retrieving different presentity alert profiles corresponding to different presence state information for the presentity node, each presentity alert profile comprising alert parameters for the presentity node.

8. The method of claim 4, comprising retrieving a presentity business alert profile when a current date and time for the presentity node match the normalized presence business temporal information, and a presentity personal alert profile when the current date and time match the normalized presence personal temporal information.

9. An article comprising a storage medium containing instructions that if executed enable a system to:

retrieve presence temporal information for a first time zone;

normalize the presence temporal information for a second time zone of a presentity node to form normalized presence temporal information; and

send presence state information from the presentity node to a presence server based on the normalized presence temporal information, the presence state information comprising presence available state information or presence unavailable state information.

The article of claim 9, further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to retrieve presence business temporal information representing business hours when a user is available for business matters in the first time zone, and presence personal temporal information representing personal hours when a user is available for personal matters in the first time zone.

11. The article of claim 10, further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to normalize presence business temporal information for the second time zone to form normalized presence business temporal information, and presence personal temporal information for the second time zone to form normalized presence personal temporal information.

12. The article of claim 11, further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to send presence available state information from the presentity node to the presence server when a current date and time match the normalized presence business temporal information, and presence unavailable state information from the presentity node to the presence server when the current date and time does not match the normalized presence business temporal information.

13. The article of claim 9, further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to generate control directives for subsequent handling operations for an incoming communication request received by the presentity node based on the presence state information for the presentity node.

14. The article of claim 9, further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to retrieve different presentity alert profiles corresponding to different presence state information for the presentity node, each presentity alert profile comprising alert parameters for the presentity node.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a presence management component operative to manage presence information for a presentity node, the presence management component comprising;

a presence normalization module operative to retrieve presence temporal information for a home time zone, and normalize the presence temporal information for a local time zone of the presentity node to form normalized presence temporal information; and

a presence control module communicatively coupled to the presence normalization module, the presence control module operative to send presence state information from the presentity node to a presence server based on the normalized presence temporal information.

The apparatus of claim 15, the presence normalization module operative to retrieve presence business temporal information representing business hours when a user is available for business matters in the home time zone, and presence personal temporal information representing personal hours when a user is available for personal matters in the home time zone.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, the presence normalization module operative to normalize presence business temporal information for the local time zone to form normalized presence business temporal information, and presence personal temporal information for the local time zone to form normalized presence personal temporal information.

The apparatus of claim 17, the presence control module operative to send presence available state information from the presentity node to the presence server when a current date and time match the normalized presence business temporal information, and presence unavailable state information from the presentity node to the presence server when the current date and time does not match the normalized presence business temporal information.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, the presence control module operative to generate control directives for subsequent handling operations for an incoming communication request received by the presentity node based on the presence state information for the presentity node.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, the presence control module operative to retrieve different presentity alert profiles corresponding to different presence state information for the presentity node, each presentity alert profile comprising alert parameters for the presentity node.
