Abstract

In general, the disclosure relates to the delivery of therapy according to a detected posture state of a patient. The disclosure contemplates a variety of techniques for managing therapy delivered to a patent, including patient and clinician interaction with a medical device configured to deliver therapy according to posture state. In one example, the disclosure relates to a technique including receiving an indication from an external device to resume delivery of therapy to a patient that was previously turned off, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off comprises therapy delivered to the patient according to a detected posture state of the patient; obtaining therapy information defining the therapy; and resuming the delivery of therapy to the patient in response to the receipt of the indication, wherein the delivery of therapy is resumed according to the obtained therapy information.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving an indication from an external device to resume delivery of therapy to a patient that was previously turned off, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off comprises therapy delivered to the patient according to a detected posture state of the patient;

obtaining therapy information defining the therapy; and

resuming the delivery of therapy to the patient in response to the receipt of the indication, wherein the delivery of therapy is resumed according to the obtained therapy information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the therapy information comprises therapy information defining one or more aspects of the therapy delivered according to the detected posture states of the patient prior to the therapy being turned off.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information defined at approximately a time the delivery of stimulation therapy was turned off.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information defined when the delivery of stimulation therapy was initialized.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information associated with a posture state of the patient detected at a time when the therapy is resumed.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information defined prior to the therapy being turned off.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the external device is a clinician programmer.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the indication from the external device comprises a first indication, the method further comprising:

sending the obtained therapy information to the external device; and

receiving a second indication from the external device indicating that the therapy should be resumed according to the obtained therapy information.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the therapy comprises electrical stimulation therapy.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off further comprises therapy delivered to the patient not according to the detected posture state of the patient.

11. A system comprising:

a therapy module configured to deliver therapy to a patient according to a detected posture state of a patient; and

a processor configured to receive an indication from an external device to resume delivery of therapy to a patient that was previously turned off, obtain therapy information defining the therapy, and resume delivery of therapy to the patient via the therapy module in response to the receipt of the indication,

wherein the delivery of therapy is resumed according to the obtained therapy information,

wherein the therapy that was previously turned off comprises therapy delivered to the patient according to the detected posture state of the patient.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the therapy information comprises therapy information defining one or more aspects of the therapy delivered according to the detected posture states of the patient prior to the therapy being turned off.

13. The system of claim 11 a time the delivery of stimulation therapy was turned off.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information defined when the delivery of stimulation therapy was initialized.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the obtained therapy information comprises therapy information defined prior to the therapy being turned off.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the obtained therapy information comprise therapy information associated with a posture state of the patient detected at a time when the therapy is resumed.

17. The system of claim 11, wherein the external device is a clinician programmer.

18. The system of claim 11, wherein the indication from the external device comprises a first indication, wherein the processor is configured to send the obtained therapy information to the external device, and receive a second indication from the external device indicating that the therapy should be resumed according to the obtained therapy information.

19. The system of claim 11, wherein the therapy comprises electrical stimulation therapy.

20. The system of claim 11, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off further comprises therapy delivered to the patient not according to the detected posture state of the patient.

21. The system of claim 11, further comprising the external device, wherein the external device is configured to generate the indication.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the external device generates the indication based on user input.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein the external device generates the indication based on expiration of a time period.

24. A system comprising:

means for receiving an indication from an external device to resume delivery of therapy to a patient that was previously turned off, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off comprises therapy delivered to the patient according to a detected posture state of the patient;

means for obtaining therapy information defining the therapy; and

means for resuming the delivery of therapy to the patient in response to the receipt of the indication, wherein the delivery of therapy is resumed according to the obtained therapy information.

25. A computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions for causing one or more processors to:

receive an indication from an external device to resume delivery of therapy to a patient that was previously turned off, wherein the therapy that was previously turned off comprises therapy delivered to the patient according to a detected posture state of the patient;

obtain therapy information defining the therapy; and

resume the delivery of therapy to the patient in response to the receipt of the indication, wherein the delivery of therapy is resumed according to the obtained therapy information.
