Abstract

Provided is a method for transferring multimedia content from the first device to a second device. The method includes scanning a memory associated with the second device to identify transcoding parameters associated and stored therein. The method also includes transcoding the multimedia content from the first device based upon the identified transcoding parameters.

Claims

1. A method for transferring multimedia content from a first device to a second device, comprising:

scanning a memory associated with the second device to identify transcoding parameters associated with content stored therein;

transcoding the multimedia stored in the first device based upon the identified transcoding parameters; and

configuring the transcoded multimedia content for storage in the memory.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning includes determining presence of (i) a capability file including the transcoding parameters or (ii) a multimedia file and deriving the transcoding parameters from the multimedia file when presence of the capability file is not determined.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising creating the capability file based upon the identified transcoding parameters.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising storing the created capability file in the memory associated with the memory associated with the second device.

5. An apparatus for transferring multimedia content from a first device to a second device, comprising:

means for scanning a memory associated with the second device to identify transcoding parameters associated with content stored therein;

means for transcoding the multimedia stored in the first device based upon the identified transcoding parameters; and

means for configuring the transcoded multimedia content for storage in the memory.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the means for scanning includes determining presence of (i) a capability file including the transcoding parameters or (ii) a multimedia file and deriving the transcoding parameters from the multimedia file when presence of the capability file is not determined.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, further comprising means for creating the capability file based upon the identified transcoding parameters.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising means for storing the created capability file in the memory associated with the memory associated with the second device.
