Abstract

An image of at least one object (14) is captured. An object class selection is received from a menu (70) of a plurality of object classes. At least one task menu specific to the object class selection is provided. A task selection is received from the at least one task menu. A task associated with the at least one object (14) is facilitated based on the image and the task selection.

33. A wireless communication device comprising:

a wireless transceiver for placing and receiving telephone calls and for communicating with an internet;

a digital camera for capturing a digital image of a scene in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a poster;

a display device, coupled to the digital camera, for displaying the digital image of the scene;

a user input interface for receiving a selection of a task from a task menu, wherein the task is associated with an event; and

a processor, coupled to the digital camera, the display device, the wireless transceiver and the user input interface, for facilitating the task based on a recognition of the poster and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the poster, wherein facilitating the task includes;

retrieving event information associated with the poster, the event information including scheduling information relating to the event; and

facilitating the display of the event information on the display device;

wherein the event is a movie.

34. The wireless communication device of claim 33 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving location information relating to the event; and

displaying the location information on the display device.

35. The wireless communication device of claim 34 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the display device.

36. The wireless communication device of claim 33 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

ordering a ticket to the event.

37. The wireless communication device of claim 33 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

sending a message to a person relating to the event via the internet.

38. A wireless communication device comprising:

a wireless transceiver for placing and receiving telephone calls and for communicating with an internet;

a digital camera for capturing a digital image of a scene in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a sign;

a display device, coupled to the digital camera, for displaying the digital image of the scene;

a user input interface for receiving a selection of a task from a task menu, wherein the task is associated with an event; and

a processor, coupled to the digital camera, the display device, the wireless transceiver and the user input interface, for facilitating the task based on a recognition of the sign and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the sign, wherein facilitating the task includes;

retrieving event information associated with the sign, the event information including scheduling information relating to an event; and

facilitating the display of the event information on the display device.

39. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving location information relating to the event; and

displaying the location information on the display device.

40. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

capturing at least one picture of a location.

41. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

getting a postcard of a location.

42. The wireless communication device of claim 39 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the display device.

43. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

ordering a ticket to the event.

44. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

sending a message to a person relating to the event via the internet.

45. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

making reservations at a restaurant.

46. The wireless communication device of claim 38 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving food information; and

displaying the food information on the display device.

47. A wireless communication device comprising:

a wireless transceiver for placing and receiving telephone calls and for communicating with an internet;

a digital camera for capturing a digital image of a scene in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a sign;

a display device, coupled to the digital camera, for displaying the digital image of the scene;

a user input interface for receiving a selection of a task from a task menu, wherein the task is associated with a location; and

a processor, coupled to the digital camera, the display device, the wireless transceiver and the user input interface, for facilitating the task based on a recognition of the sign and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the sign, wherein facilitating the task includes;

retrieving location information relating to the sign; and

displaying the location information on the display device.

48. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the display device.

49. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

capturing at least one picture of the location.

50. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

getting a postcard of the location.

51. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving event information associated with the sign, the event information including scheduling information relating to an event; and

facilitating the display of the event information on the display device.

52. The wireless communication device of claim 51 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

ordering a ticket to the event.

53. The wireless communication device of claim 51 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

sending a message to a person relating to the event via the internet.

54. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

making reservations at a restaurant.

55. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

retrieving food information; and

displaying the food information on the display device.

56. The wireless communication device of claim 47 wherein facilitating the task further includes:

sending physical mail to a person.

57. A method comprising:

displaying a digital image of a scene on a display device of a handheld cellular telephone in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a poster relating to an event;

capturing the digital image of the scene;

recognizing the poster in the digital image of the scene, based on visually recognizing the poster and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the poster;

retrieving event information associated with the event, wherein the event is a movie; and

displaying the event information on the handheld cellular telephone.

58. The method of claim 57 wherein the event information includes scheduling information relating to the event.

59. The method of claim 57 further comprising:

retrieving location information relating to a location of the event; and

displaying the location information on the handheld cellular telephone.

60. The method of claim 59 further comprising:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the handheld cellular telephone.

61. The method of claim 57 further comprising:

ordering a ticket to the event.

62. The method of claim 57 further comprising:

sending a message to a person relating to the event.

63. A method comprising:

displaying a digital image of a scene on a display device of a handheld cellular telephone in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a sign relating to an event;

capturing the digital image of the scene;

recognizing the sign in the digital image of the scene, based on visually recognizing the sign and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the sign;

retrieving event information associated with the sign; and

displaying the event information on the handheld cellular telephone.

64. The method of claim 63 wherein the event information includes scheduling information relating to the event.

65. The method of claim 63 further comprising:

retrieving location information relating to a location relating to the event; and

displaying the location information on the handheld cellular telephone.

66. The method of claim 65 further comprising:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the handheld cellular telephone.

67. The method of claim 65 further comprising:

ordering a ticket to the event.

68. The method of claim 65 further comprising:

sending a message to a person relating to the event.

69. The method of claim 63 further comprising:

capturing at least one picture of a location relating to the event.

getting a postcard of a location relating to the event.

displaying a digital image of a scene on a display device of a handheld cellular telephone in response to an action of a user, wherein the scene includes a sign;

capturing the digital image of the scene;

recognizing the sign in the digital image of the scene, based on visually recognizing the sign and not based on the recognition of an optical code contained in the sign;

retrieving location information associated with a location indicated by the sign; and

displaying the location information on the handheld cellular telephone.

75. The method of claim 74 further comprising:

retrieving travel information to the location; and

displaying the travel information on the handheld cellular telephone.

76. The method of claim 74 further comprising:

retrieving event information relating to an event associated with the sign, the event information including scheduling information relating to the event; and

displaying the event information on the handheld cellular telephone.

77. The method of claim 76 further comprising:

ordering a ticket to the event.

78. The method of claim 76 further comprising:

sending a message to a person relating to the event.

79. The method of claim 74 further comprising:

capturing at least one picture of the location.

80. The method of claim 74 further comprising:

getting a postcard of the location.

81. The method of claim 74 further comprising:

making reservations at a restaurant.

retrieving food information; and

displaying the food information on the handheld cellular telephone.
