Abstract

Adverse effects associated with collisions in a wireless communication system are mitigated by defining one or more values for receive data. Here, data that is expected to be received during a data transmission may be set to a defined value. In some cases the defined value is a predefined value (e.g., zero or some other value). In some cases the defined value is based on noise and/or signals levels in the system. In some implementations a device may define receive data values for a period of time during which data is expected to be received and during which a transmission occurs. In some aspects a hybrid on-off keying scheme is employed to determine received data values.

Claims

1. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

transmitting a pulse during a period of time; and

specifying at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one value comprises at least one predefined value.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein each value of the at least one value is defined to be zero.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one value is defined based on at least one of:

a noise level or a signal level.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the at least one value comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the data is expected to be received during a receive time period;

the method further comprises determining an overlap time period where the receive time period overlaps with the period of time; and

the at least one value is specified for the overlap time period.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the data expected to be received during the receive time period corresponds to at least a portion of another pulse.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein:

the at least one value specified for the overlap time period comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the period of time overlaps at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse, the method further comprising:

determining at least one other data value for at least another one of the PPM positions; and

determining a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one other data value but not based on the data expected to be received during the period of time.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one other data value.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the specification of the at least one value comprises estimating a data value for the at least one position based on the at least one other data value, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated data value.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on the data expected to be received during the period of time is triggered by a determination that the data expected to be received during the period of time is not available or is not sufficiently accurate.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising using the at least one value to provide a decision threshold for determining a received data value.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the period of time overlaps at least one of a plurality of PPM positions for receive data, the method further comprising:

determining at least one determined value based on the at least one value;

generating at least one sampled value by sampling during at least another one of the PPM positions; and

determining a PPM data value based on the at least one determined value and the at least one sampled value.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the data expected to be received comprises a plurality of samples obtained during a receive sampling period.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the specification of the at least one value comprises:

determining a quantity of the samples affected by the transmission of the pulse; and

defining the at least one value based on the determined quantity.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one value comprises at least one defined value, the method further comprising adapting the at least one defined value.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the at least one defined value is adapted based on at least one of:

a measured noise level, a selected radio frequency channel, or a result of a data error test.

22. The method of claim 1, wherein a first portion of a PPM position associated with the data expected to be received overlaps the period of time and a second portion of the PPM position does not overlap the period of time, the method further comprising:

receiving data during the second portion of the PPM position; and

defining a value for the PPM position based on the received data and the specified at least one value.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein the period of time comprises at least one of:

a first time period during which the means for transmitting is being enabled to transmit the pulse, a second time period during which the means for transmitting is transmitting the pulse, or a third time period during which the means for transmitting is being disabled after transmitting the pulse.

24. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a pulse during a period of time; and

a receive data specifier configured to specify at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the at least one value comprises at least one predefined value.

26. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein each value of the at least one value is defined to be zero.

27. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the at least one value is defined based on at least one of:

a noise level or a signal level.

28. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein:

the at least one value comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

29. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

30. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein:

the data is expected to be received during a receive time period;

the apparatus further comprises a collision detector configured to determine an overlap time period where the receive time period overlaps with the period of time; and

the at least one value is specified for the overlap time period.

31. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the data expected to be received during the receive time period corresponds to at least a portion of another pulse.

32. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein:

the at least one value specified for the overlap time period comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

34. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the period of time overlaps at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse, the apparatus further comprising:

a sampler configured to determine at least one other data value for at least another one of the PPM positions; and

a decoder configured to determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one other data value but not based on the data expected to be received during the period of time.

35. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

36. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one other data value.

37. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein:

the receive data specifier is further configured to specify the at least one value by estimating a data value for the at least one position based on the at least one other data value; and

the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated data value.

38. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on the data expected to be received during the period of time is triggered by a determination that the data expected to be received during the period of time is not available or is not sufficiently accurate.

39. The apparatus of claim 24, further comprising a decoder configured to use the at least one value to provide a decision threshold for determining a received data value.

40. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein:

the period of time overlaps at least one of a plurality of PPM positions for receive data;

the apparatus further comprises a decoder configured to determine at least one determined value based on the at least one value;

the apparatus further comprises a sampler configured to generate at least one sampled value by sampling during at least another one of the PPM positions; and

the decoder is further configured to determine a PPM data value based on the at least one determined value and the at least one sampled value.

41. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the data expected to be received comprises a plurality of samples obtained during a receive sampling period.

42. The apparatus of claim 41, wherein the specification of the at least one value comprises:

determining a quantity of the samples affected by the transmission of the pulse; and

defining the at least one value based on the determined quantity.

43. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein:

the at least one value comprises at least one defined value; and

the apparatus further comprises a data value determiner configured to adapt the at least one defined value.

44. The apparatus of claim 43, wherein the at least one defined value is adapted based on at least one of:

a measured noise level, a selected radio frequency channel, or a result of a data error test.

45. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein a first portion of a PPM position associated with the data expected to be received overlaps the period of time and a second portion of the PPM position does not overlap the period of time, the apparatus further comprising:

a receiver configured to receive data during the second portion of the PPM position; and

a decoder configured to define a value for the PPM position based on the received data and the specified at least one value.

46. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the period of time comprises at least one of:

a first time period during which the means for transmitting is being enabled to transmit the pulse, a second time period during which the means for transmitting is transmitting the pulse, or a third time period during which the means for transmitting is being disabled after transmitting the pulse.

47. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for transmitting a pulse during a period of time; and

means for specifying at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time.

48. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the at least one value comprises at least one predefined value.

49. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein each value of the at least one value is defined to be zero.

50. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the at least one value is defined based on at least one of:

a noise level or a signal level.

51. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein:

the at least one value comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

52. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

53. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein:

the data is expected to be received during a receive time period;

the apparatus further comprises means for determining an overlap time period where the receive time period overlaps with the period of time; and

the at least one value is specified for the overlap time period.

54. The apparatus of claim 53, wherein the data expected to be received during the receive time period corresponds to at least a portion of another pulse.

55. The apparatus of claim 53, wherein:

the at least one value specified for the overlap time period comprises a plurality of values that correspond to data samples; and

at least one member of the plurality of values is defined to be a first value and each remaining member of the plurality of values is defined to be a second value.

56. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein:

the at least one member of the plurality of values comprises a defined quantity of members; and

the defined quantity is based on at least one of;

a noise level or a signal level.

57. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the period of time overlaps at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse, the apparatus further comprising:

means for determining at least one other data value for at least another one of the PPM positions; and

means for determining a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one other data value but not based on the data expected to be received during the period of time.

58. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

59. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one other data value.

60. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein:

the means for specifying is configured to specify the at least one value by estimating a data value for the at least one position based on the at least one other data value; and

the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated data value.

61. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on the data expected to be received during the period of time is triggered by a determination that the data expected to be received during the period of time is not available or is not sufficiently accurate.

62. The apparatus of claim 47, further comprising means for using the at least one value to provide a decision threshold for determining a received data value.

63. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein:

the period of time overlaps at least one of a plurality of PPM positions for receive data;

the apparatus further comprises means for determining at least one determined value based on the at least one value;

the apparatus further comprises means for generating at least one sampled value by sampling during at least another one of the PPM positions; and

the apparatus further comprises means for determining a PPM data value based on the at least one determined value and the at least one sampled value.

64. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the data expected to be received comprises a plurality of samples obtained during a receive sampling period.

65. The apparatus of claim 64, wherein the specification of the at least one value comprises:

determining a quantity of the samples affected by the transmission of the pulse; and

defining the at least one value based on the determined quantity.

66. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the at least one value comprises at least one defined value, the apparatus further comprising means for adapting the at least one defined value.

67. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein the at least one defined value is adapted based on at least one of:

a measured noise level, a selected radio frequency channel, or a result of a data error test.

68. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein a first portion of a PPM position associated with the data expected to be received overlaps the period of time and a second portion of the PPM position does not overlap the period of time, the apparatus further comprising:

means for receiving data during the second portion of the PPM position; and

means for defining a value for the PPM position based on the received data and the specified at least one value.

69. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the period of time comprises at least one of:

a first time period during which the means for transmitting is being enabled to transmit the pulse, a second time period during which the means for transmitting is transmitting the pulse, or a third time period during which the means for transmitting is being disabled after transmitting the pulse.

70. A computer-program product for wireless communication, comprising:

computer-readable medium encoded with codes executable to;

transmit a pulse during a period of time; and

specify at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time.

71. A headset, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a pulse during a period of time;

a receive data specifier configured to specify at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time; and

a transducer configured to provide an audio output based on the specified at least one value.

72. A watch, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a pulse during a period of time;

a receive data specifier configured to specify at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time; and

a user interface configured to provide an indication based on the specified at least one value.

73. A sensing device, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a pulse during a period of time;

a receive data specifier configured to specify at least one value for data expected to be received during the period of time; and

a sensor configured to provide data for transmission via the pulse.

74. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

determining that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

monitoring for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

determining at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring; and

determining a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position.

75. The method of claim 74, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

76. The method of claim 74, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one data value.

77. The method of claim 74, further comprising estimating at least one other data value for the at least one position based on the at least one data value, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated at least one other data value.

78. The method of claim 74, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on at least one adaptable criterion.

79. The method of claim 74, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is triggered by a determination that data is not received during the at least one position or that any data received during the at least one position is not sufficiently accurate.

80. The method of claim 74, further comprising determining a quantity of samples associated with the at least one position that is affected by the transmission of the pulse, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on the determined quantity.

81. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a collision detector configured to determine that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

a receiver configured to monitor for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

a sampler configured to determine at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring; and

a decoder configured to determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position.

82. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

83. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one data value.

84. The apparatus of claim 81, further comprising a receive data specifier configured to estimate at least one other data value for the at least one position based on the at least one data value, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated at least one other data value.

85. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on at least one adaptable criterion.

86. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is triggered by a determination that data is not received during the at least one position or that any data received during the at least one position is not sufficiently accurate.

87. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein:

the collision detector is further configured to determine a quantity of samples associated with the at least one position that is affected by the transmission of the pulse; and

a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on the determined quantity.

88. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for determining that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

means for monitoring for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

means for determining at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring; and

means for determining a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position.

89. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises an on-off keying operation.

90. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the at least one data value.

91. The apparatus of claim 88, further comprising means for estimating at least one other data value for the at least one position based on the at least one data value, wherein the determination of the data value for the another pulse comprises setting the data value for the another pulse equal to the estimated at least one other data value.

92. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on at least one adaptable criterion.

93. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is triggered by a determination that data is not received during the at least one position or that any data received during the at least one position is not sufficiently accurate.

94. The apparatus of claim 88, wherein:

the means for determining that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position is configured to determine a quantity of samples associated with the at least one position that is affected by the transmission of the pulse; and

a decision to not determine the data value for the another pulse based on any data received during the at least one position is based on the determined quantity.

95. A computer-program product for wireless communication, comprising:

computer-readable medium encoded with codes executable to;

determine that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

monitor for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

determine at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring; and

determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position.

96. A headset, comprising:

a collision detector configured to determine that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

a receiver configured to monitor for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

a sampler configured to determine at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring;

a decoder configured to determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position; and

a transducer configured to provide an audio output based on the data value for the another pulse.

97. A watch, comprising:

a collision detector configured to determine that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

a receiver configured to monitor for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

a sampler configured to determine at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring;

a decoder configured to determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position; and

a user interface configured to provide an indication based on the data value for the another pulse.

98. A sensing device, comprising:

a collision detector configured to determine that transmission of a pulse by a node occurs during at least one position of a plurality of PPM positions defined for receiving another pulse at the node;

a receiver configured to monitor for the another pulse during at least another one of the PPM positions;

a sampler configured to determine at least one data value for the at least another one of the PPM positions based on the monitoring;

a decoder configured to determine a data value for the another pulse based on the at least one data value but not based on any data received during the at least one position; and

a sensor configured to provide data for transmission via the pulse.
