Abstract

An apparatus and method for delivering mass media and multimedia information to a digital periodical or advertising device preferably using multimedia messaging service (MMS) and having an electronic flexible screen or display is disclosed. A multimedia document, part of a multimedia document, web page, multimedia advertisement, or any other multimedia content on a server or a computer is extracted, parsed, and/or segmented into a plurality of video, audio, image, or text elements. The plurality of elements are each converted to an MMS message and transmitted optionally with an MMS assembler message or embedded information in each MMS message for proper reassembly of the original multimedia document or content. The MMS messages are received and reassembled back into the original multimedia document or content at a digital periodical or advertising device.

Claims

1. A digital periodical and advertising apparatus comprising:

an organic light emitting diode (OLED) flexible display;

a first housing member having a processor, a memory device, a plurality of sensors, a network adapter configured for wireless communications, and a first antenna;

a second housing member having a second antenna and configured to store the OLED flexible display, the first and second antennas configured to provide spatial diversity; and

the network adapter being configured to receive, in response to a request triggered by the plurality of sensors, a plurality of multimedia messaging service (MMS) messages each having a different element representing a segmented digital multimedia periodical document, each one of the plurality of MMS messages having streaming video, audio, image, and text information from the segmented digital multimedia periodical document;

wherein the processor having an MMS user agent is configured to reassemble the segmented digital multimedia periodical document with the plurality of received MMS messages.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of MMS messages are generated responsive to a print function on a computer application on a remote computer.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the segmented digital multimedia periodical document is a portable document format (PDF) document having embedded video advertisements.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each one of the plurality of MMS messages are embedded with information describing a correct positioning or placement within the segmented digital multimedia periodical document to display the received MMS messages on the OLED flexible display.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a power source for receiving and storing wireless power wherein the plurality of MMS messages are transcoded based on proximity to a wireless power coverage area.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the trigger is caused by a change in shape of the OLED flexible display detected by the plurality of sensors.

7. A method for providing digital periodical and advertising content, the method comprising:

triggering retrieval of a digital multimedia periodical document from a server based on a plurality of sensors coupled to an organic light emitting diode (OLED) flexible display detecting a change in shape of the OLED flexible display;

converting the digital multimedia periodical document into a plurality of multimedia messaging service (MMS) messages each having a different element by segmenting the digital multimedia periodical document, each one of the plurality of MMS messages having streaming video, audio, image, and text information from the segmented digital multimedia periodical document; and

transmitting the plurality of MMS messages representing the digital multimedia periodical document.
