Abstract

System(s) and method(s) are provided for extension of mobile operation to a device. An extension interface comprises a client component within a mobile that is linked to a client component within the device. Extension of mobile operation is secured via delivery of credentials associated with the mobile to the device. Delivery of credentials is temporary and typically spans the period during which mobile operation is extended to the device. Mobile'"'"'s application(s) and content(s) can be conveyed to the device for utilization therein. An emulation component that can reside at least in part on the client component within the device can emulate mobile operation. Client component within the mobile can include at least in part (i) a component that downloads drivers for communication with, and utilization of, the device to which mobile operation is extended, and (ii) a component that can scan for wireless-capable devices to extend mobile service thereto.

Claims

1. A system that extends mobile operation to a device, comprising:

a link component that functionally connects a mobile station to a client component that resides within the device; and

a client component that resides in the mobile station and securely conveys at least one of identification credentials or an application to the client component within the device through the link component, wherein identification credentials are valid for a predetermined time span.

2. The system of claim 1, the client component that resides in the mobile station conveys content through the link component.

3. The system of claim 2, the client component that resides in the mobile station relays traffic from a wireless network to the device.

4. The system of claim 3, the client component that resides in the mobile station relays traffic received from the device to the wireless network.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the link component includes one of a wired link or a wireless link.

6. The system of claim 5, the wired link further comprises at least one of a single-line twisted-pair, a multi-line twisted-pair, a FireWire bus, a general purpose interface bus (GPIB) line, a T1/E1 phone line, a digital subscriber line, an optical fiber backbone, or a coaxial cable.

7. The system of claim 6, the wireless link includes one of a line-of-sight link or a non-LOS link.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the device is an electronic appliance and includes one at least one of a personal computer, a data projector, a television, or a camera.

9. The system of claim 4, wherein identification credentials include at least one of a system identification module (SIM) code or license information for a conveyed application.

10. The system of claim 9, the client component that resides in the mobile station includes a plug-and-play component that scans for a driver to communicate with the device, and downloads a suitable the driver to the mobile station.

11. The system of claim 10, the client component that resides in the mobile station communicates with the device through the link component in accordance at least in part with the downloaded driver.

12. The system of claim 10, the client component that resides in the mobile station manages a scanner component that scan for wireless signals to identify a set of wireless-capable devices.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein a report component reports the identified devices.

14. The system of claim 13, the client component that resides in the mobile station includes a component that schedules traffic from a set of telecommunication devices, wherein the traffic is relayed to the device.

15. The system of claim 13, the client component that resides in the mobile station operates (i) a scanner component that detects an available wireless network within an environment that includes the device, and (ii) a handover component that hands off the mobile station to the available wireless network.

16. A method, comprising:

attaching a mobile handset to a device through an extension interface;

conveying securely the mobile handset'"'"'s security credentials to the attached device; and

relaying traffic from a wireless network to the attached device and from the attached device to the wireless network through the mobile handset.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising conveying an application and content associated with the mobile handset to the attached device.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

scanning for and downloading a driver to operate the attached the device; and

conveying content and traffic to the attached device based at least in part on the downloaded driver.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising:

scanning for a device capable of wireless operation; and

selecting an identified device capable of wireless operation and extending mobile operation to the selected device.

20. The method of claim 18, further comprising reporting the identified device.

21. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

scanning for a wireless network that serves a confined area that encompasses the attached device;

handing off mobile handset operation to the wireless network identified through the scan; and

relaying traffic to the device through the wireless network to which mobile handset operation is handed off.

22. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

establishing call(s) with a set of telecommunication devices via the attached device;

scheduling traffic from the set of telecommunication devices to the attached device; and

relaying traffic from the attached device to the set of telecommunication devices.

23. A computer-readable storage medium having code stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, the code causes the processor to perform at least the following acts:

attaching a mobile handset to a device through an extension interface;

conveying securely the mobile handset'"'"'s security credentials to the attached device;

conveying an application and content associated with the mobile handset to the attached device; and

relaying traffic from a wireless network to the attached device and from the attached device to the wireless network through the mobile handset.

24. A system to receive wireless service through a mobile via an extension interface, the system comprising:

a link component that functionally connects a device to a client component that resides in a mobile; and

a client component that resides in the device and receives security credentials associated to the mobile through the link component;

wherein the credentials are revoked when connection is terminated.

25. The system of claim 24, the client component that resides in the device receives at least one of an application or content from the mobile.

26. The system of claim 25, the client component that resides in the device comprises an emulation component that emulates the mobile operation.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the emulation component comprises:

a component that optimizes source code for the application; and

a component that compiles the optimized source code to generate a device-specific application that optimally utilizes operational resources of the device.

28. The system of claim 27, to facilitate source code optimization, the emulation further comprising a memory platform that comprises at least one of a modules store, an objects store, a classes store, a procedures store, or a metadata store.

29. The system of claim 28, the client component that resides in the device comprises a component that synchronizes content generated through emulation of the mobile operation.

30. The system of claim 29, the client component that resides in the device conveys at least one of traffic or content to the mobile via the link component.

31. The system of claim 30, the client component operates an add-on component that processes traffic received from a set of telecommunication devices through the link component before the traffic is displayed in the device.

32. The system of claim 31, the processed traffic includes at least one of a translated traffic, a voice-to-text converted traffic, a text-to-voice converted traffic, or a graphic abstraction of voice traffic.

33. The system of claim 32, the client component that resides in the device revokes received identification credentials when the device detaches from the mobile.

34. A method, comprising:

attaching a device to a mobile station through an extension interface;

receiving and retaining a set of mobile station'"'"'s security credentials;

receiving traffic from the mobile station; and

delivering traffic generated at the device through the extension interface.

35. The method of claim 34, further comprising emulating the mobile station operation.

36. The method of claim 35, further comprising synchronizing content generated through emulating the mobile station operation.

37. The method of claim 36, further comprising receiving application(s) and content from the mobile station.

38. The method of claim 34, the set of security credentials remain valid for a finite time interval.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein emulating the mobile station operation comprises:

optimizing and compiling source code for a received application(s) to generate a device-specific application; and

utilizing the device-specific optimized application.

40. The method of claim 39, further comprising retaining log and debug records of utilization of the optimized application.

41. The method of claim 40, further comprising retaining the device-specific optimized application.

42. The method of claim 41, further comprising:

receiving traffic from a set of telecommunication devices through the mobile station;

processing the received traffic according at least in part to a set of add-on features and delivering the processed traffic; and

generating and conveying traffic in response to the delivered traffic.

43. The method of claim 39, wherein source code for the received application(s) comprises object-oriented code, and optimizing source code includes modification of at least one of a module, an object, a class, a metadata associated with the source code for the received application(s).

44. A computer-readable storage medium having code stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, the code causes the processor to perform at least the following acts:

attaching a device to a subscriber station through an extension interface;

receiving and retaining a set of security credentials for the subscriber station;

receiving traffic from the subscriber station; and

delivering traffic generated at the device through the extension interface.
